Wladimir Klitschko Vs. Eddie Chambers Preview

Chambers Vs. Klitschko is American Hopeful's First World Title Shot

Eddie Chambers has been telling the world for quite some time that his chance against Wladimir Klitschko would come in March of 2010, and when it did, he would know what to do with it. Chambers proved to be prophetic - or at least well informed of his own business dealings - on the former, but how will he actually fare against Klitschko?

The Eddie Chamber vs. Wlad Klitschko bout showcases two of the top five boxers in the heavyweight division rankings and will be for Klitschko's WBO and IBF Heavyweight titles. The fight takes place on March 20, 2010 and will be held in the 50,000 seat Espirit Arena in Dusseldorf Germany, filled to the brim with a raucous pro-Klitschko crowd to be sure.

As of now, the fight has no official television home in the United States, although it is likely that either HBO or ESPN will pick up the tab as the date approaches.

Klitschko vs. Chambers Preview

Klitschko hasn't lost a bout in five years, during which time he made eight defenses of his title, perfected his craft and knocked out a string of contenders, pretenders and former champions. Chambers is riding high on a five fight winning streak since his lone setback in January of 2008.

Now taking his training and conditioning seriously, he has dominated the likes of Samuel Peter and Alexander Dimitrenko. The Dimitrenko bout is noteworthy because the fighter weighs 250 lbs and stands 6'7". In other words, he's strikingly similar in physique to Wladimir himself.

Chambers gives up 30 pounds to Klitschko, and if he entered the ring with a frame that looked like his opponent's, it would be 50. Tack on a 4 inch height deficit, a 6 inch reach deficit and a modest record of 18 knockouts amongst 35 victories and you might think that Chambers was another no hoper.

Unlike some of his plodding predecessors however, Chambers brings a knowledge of the Sweet Science into the ring. If he works his angles, makes Klitschko miss with his thudding jab and gives him hell to pay when he does, a victory isn't out of reach.

The problem of course is that his punches might be, while Klitschko on the other hand can comfortably sit on the outside, landing fight ending power shots. The fight will hinge on whether Chambers can bring Klitschko out of that comfort zone.

Will Chambers be able to break through and become the new crown jewel of American boxing? It won't be an easy task, but as a +500 underdog, I might just like those odds.

LOL from the comments so far. Chambers is a thinker. Now if only he were a bigger thumper. Still, it's boxing...

Hey, you're getting lots of trips to Vegas--hope you get to see some fights.

Essentially, this is Klitschko vs. Byrd III.

The best that Chambers could hope for is that the American military stationed in Germany will go to the Arena in Dusseldorf to offer him support! Otherwise, win or lose, his fan base will clearly be outnumbered! Cheers, Jake!
