Being a former basketball player, I can say that sometimes fights like these happen. I was never as big as Candace Parker -- though I would have loved to have been -- but I have seen a few brawls out on the basketball court. I often follow the WNBA because I am proud that women are now involved in sports like this. I am not so proud when my 6-year-old daughter is watching with me and a WNBA brawl breaks out.
I have been through this before when watching other sports with my kids and each time I say the same thing so that they understand that a sport is not worth getting mad over.
A WNBA brawl isn't good
I explain to my children that when you are involved in a sport like this and a fight breaks out, there should be and usually are consequences to pay. Last night during the WNBA fight, there were four players ejected from the game and this was part of the penalty that they had to pay.
WNBA brawls aren't cute
Despite all the media attention that the WNBA fight received, this still doesn't mean that it is cute in any way. I am sure that you will have your regular person saying that so and so kicked so and so's rear but this still doesn't give them the right to fight.
WNBA fights at a glance
The WNBA brawl happened for a reason. There were too many hot heads trying to run the show and show off. During a game like this, they shouldn't think of themselves or their reputation. If people would have taken the time to cool off and maybe even pulled a few of them out of the game for a while, this may have not happened. People should understand that someone could have seriously gotten hurt other than a leg entry that one player received.

AS A HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL PLAYER I KNOW THAT THE GAME CAN GET ROUGH ESPECIALLY IF ITS A "RIVAL" TEAM...ALTHOUGH I DONT AGREE WITH LETTING IT GET TO THAT LEVEL,UNNECESARY CONTACT WAS MADE ON THAT BLOCK-OUT. CANDACE PARKER REACTED WITHOUT THINKING AND I BET SHE REGRETS IT...BUT SHE REACTED THE WAY THAT MOST PEOPLE WOULD WHEN SOMEONE WALKS UP TO YOU THE WAY THAT PEARSON DID...NOT SAYING IT WAS RIGHT. THE WHOLE GAME WAS INTENSE AND THE REFS SHOULD HAVE ISSUED SOME WARNINGS BEFORE IT GOT TO THAT POINT.THE PLAYERS HAVE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT THEY DID.
Some people are saying it was all contrived to get the WNBA some attention. I think that's crap, but you know there are guys out there that just love to watch women swinging at each other...
