Wodent Wheel Jr Review

Amy Brantley
I recently had the joy of bringing home a teddy bear hamster, which I named Ruxpin. I wanted to upgrade him to a larger home and this meant buying a new wheel. After hours of research, I decided on the Wodent Wheel Jr. The reviews were fantastic and Wodent Wheel products are the only exercise wheels approved by the ASPCA. Not to mention that the reviews spoke highly of how silent these wheels are. This was the feature I was most concerned about. I have other pets that need their rest at night and Ruxpin's wheel was keeping them awake. While the Wodent Wheel Jr was a bit more expensive than other brands, I decided to go ahead and purchase it. Boy, was that a mistake.

First of all, the design of the Wodent Wheel Jr is one that hamsters absolutely love. The front of the wheel has a serious of holes the hamster can crawl into that give the wheel a more closed off appearance. My hamster definitely loved his new wheel. In fact, he loved it so much that he brought food into the wheel and didn't leave to go potty. This was the beginning of the first problem I experienced with the product.

To thoroughly clean the Wodent Wheel Jr you have to fully disassemble the product. This isn't a big problem. The product comes apart easily enough. However, there are lots of cracks and crevices that are hard to get clean. The weekly cage cleaning quickly began to take a lot longer due to this wheel.

The second problem was that the Wodent Wheel Jr is far from silent. If you spin the wheel in one direction it is fairly silent, but my hamster didn't want to run in that direction. In fact, he seemed to love the noise the wheel made. A spray of cooking spray helped at first, but eventually the wheel became too loud. It was loud enough to be heard in our bedroom and was keeping my other pets awake. Eventually, I gave up on the wheel and replaced it.

I like the fact that my hamster enjoyed the Wodent Wheel Jr so much and that it was approved by the ASPCA. However, I didn't like how unsanitary the wheel was or how loud it became. The price around $16, which wasn't awful. I cannot recommend this product though. I give it 2 out of 5 stars. I would give it 1 star, but my hamster really liked the wheel.
