Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Biographies
Hey Kids, Meet Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - "Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born to Leopold and Anna Maria Pertl Mozart in 1756 in what is now Salzburg, Austria. His father Leopold Mozart was a choir master, a minor composer and an experienced teacher. When Mozart's sister Nannerl was seven she began keyboard lessons with her father while the three year old Wolfgang watched with fascination."

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Bio - "Mozart was no doubt the greatest child star that ever lived. He was traveling all over Europe playing music by the time he was six. Because of his constant travels, Mozart eventually learned to speak fifteen different languages."

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Lesson Plan
Listen to a recording of Mozart's Ah, je dirais-vous maman, or watch a video of a performance on YouTube.com. This work is based on the song we know today as Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. The melody was written by an unknown author when Mozart was just a boy. The verse, however, would not be written until 17 years after Mozart's death. The musical form of this work is theme and variations. A theme is a melody, and a variation is a change to the melody. Composers writing music in theme and variations form will write a single melody, and then vary the melody, harmony, rhythm and/or orchestration (the instruments playing the music) each time it is stated. Ah, je dirais-vous maman states the theme, and then follows with 12 variations.

Begin the lesson by explaining theme and variations form. Next, create a list of adjectives that describe a range of emotions (happy, sad, excited). Finally, as you listen to the piece, stop the recording after each variation, and ask your child to assign one the adjectives from your list to the variation.
