Wolf-Man a Gothic Winner, Clash of Titans - a Toss Up

Robert Lee Alford
This week is feast or famine at the movie theater. The best offering is Wolf-Man a, re-re-re-worked piece that has been played by everyone from Lon Chaney J.R. to the Back to the Future Kid (Michael J. Fox). Something about this particular wolf man reprise is different, something that hasn't raised it's head in years.

This time, it is actually scary and at some points down right frightening. I can't tell if it's the air of impending doom the is foreshadowed by the dimly lit gloom of the cinematography or the nifty acting of Benicio Del Toro. What ever the reason, the formula somehow works in not only re-inventing the over-rehashed doggie film but pushing it again into the realm of true quality "Gothic Horror". Sure we all know the story, rich man bitten by werewolf, takes to biting his fellow citizens in misty, damp, scenic London. But trust me... this time it is different. This time, with the help of Michael Phillips and the always superb Sir Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt, the film melts together with Toro's great energetic performance and produces a true master piece in the original spirit of the genre. This review flies in the face of many reviewers but I'm sticking by it. This movie gets 1 bathroom break for a lot of action.

Wolf Man is playing now in theaters and is rated R for really graphic horror,... But then shouldn't it be.

Clash of the Titans

I feel really bad to give this movie a bad grade. I was such a fan of the first offering that came complete with Burgess Meredith and Sir Laurence Olivier. This time I get the feeling that the roles are played not as well and even though the special effects are spectacular, the film is still lacking. Even with the re-done look of the "Kraken" , it still looks kind of 'Starwarsy Cloverfieldesque." I just did not get a warm and fuzzy from this one. For the fans of mythology who have not seen the first version, I would say, go for it but for hardcore fans of the original, don't waste your time. Or go rent the original, you won't be sorry.

Clash gets two bathroom breaks cause I could miss much of it and still know the story but still if you are a real Titans addict, you will like it.

I can't wait to go see Wolfman. I watched all the old Wolfman movies when I was young. Loved them all! Your review makes me want to see the new Wolfman even more!
