During the investigation however, she confessed that she had killed 10 babies, but so far only eight bodies have been found.
The woman, who is a nursing assistant, had hidden her pregnancies from her husband, delivered the babies herself, and systematically ended their lives.
If she is convicted, which is almost certain, she could face 15 years in prison.
No charges have yet been made against her husband, who apparently hid the bodies, all wrapped in plastic bags.
The affair came to light recently when the new owners of a house that the couple had previously lived in found the remains of two children hidden in the home and garden, in the town of Villers-au-Tertre near Lille in Eastern France..
They called the police, who tracked down the couple, and then found another six bodies of children hidden at their new home, making eight in total.
Their old home in which the first two bodies were found, belonged to the woman's mother.
The Paris newspaper Le Figaro reports that the first two bodies had laid hidden in the house for more than twenty years.
It seems that the woman had been hiding her pregnancies from her husband, then killing the babies immediately after their birth and placing them into the plastic bags.
Forensics have confirmed that all eight babies are from the same set of parents.
The village mayor is in shock, and locals who knew the couple have said that they just appeared to be a normal couple, and took an active role in the community.
Also very strange is the fact that the couple have two grown up daughters and also grandchildren.
One can only wonder why the couple didn't use contraception, or at least abortion.
Yes in the USA especially, abortion is a dirty word, but what is worse, terminating a pregnancy in the early months, or allowing it to continue to birth, and then killing the newborn baby?
How the mother could even go through the nine months of pregnancy, knowing that at the end of it she was going to kill the baby that was growing inside of her. Well it's beyond comprehension for most people.
This is unfortunately just another example of the sad and tragic news that we see every day.

OMG, what a story.
She got house arrest and probation, btw.
Right here in Philadelphia, we had a woman named Marie Noe, 70, who was arrested about ten years ago for smothering 8 of her very young children, 30 years after the last death. They had originally been ruled crib deaths.
sad story, and yep, my feeder had a nail. Now I have a newer one with no nail, no more worries of the little guys hurting themselves.
Very sad.
Tony, your statement about abortion is exactly how I feel about it. I read somewhere the number of babies that are found dead in dumpsters within two blocks of hospitals is very high in most cities. This is extremely disturbing... but good coverage.
Birth control is readily available, so why wasn't she using it?
Yes, I too am shocked that the sentence is only 15 years. Maybe that's per child. That would make more sense.
That's a scary thought Vincent... With 2012 just around the corner, global warming and unusual weather patterns, earthquakes etc, and all the strange behavior being committed, it does make you wonder...
