Woman Dies Trying to Stop a Fight and Two People Charged with Trespassing

Some years back a family moved into the condo next to me. It seemed that at least once a week they would get into a fight and someone would call the police. They did not speak much English and got upset when we asked them to be quiet. The day came when their fighting lead to someone getting killed.

Most of the time they would have their fights on the weekends. It was a Saturday night and all hell broke loose. People gathered in the courtyard and some of us get on our cell phones and again called the police. Before the police got there, the young boy who lived in the condo with his fighting parents tried to climb out his bedroom window. I ran to help him as another woman went into the condo to see if she could help break up the fight.

I tried to stop the woman from entering the condo but she would not listen. I could not stop her and she would not wait for the police. A friend and I went running into the condo after her but it was too late. In the kitchen, the man who lived there was standing over the woman with a knife. He had stabbed her in the chest and his wife was standing by him looking down at the fallen lady. As my friend tried to talk to the man, the police came in.

My friend and I were told to go outside and later they took our statements. The lady was dead! Soon thereafter, the couple left the condo and we all ended up in court. At one point they tried to charge my friend and I with trespassing. The charges were dropped and the man did service for some time.

I have to say I did learn a lesson. No matter what, do not stick your nose into family trouble. Just call the police and hope for the best. That's the safe way of helping others. Call for help and let the people, who know what they are doing, do the dangerous work so you don't have to and get yourself hurt or killed. They're the professionals when it comes to danger. To this day I wish I could have done more to stop that lady from going into the condo but at the time I really did not know what to do.

Since then I have joined different groups to help people in need. I will never forget that night, some years back, seeing that lady bleeding on the kitchen floor, the angry look on the man's face has he held the knife and his wife talking up for him and the thing he did. I can not help to think that something like that could had been done when the police had been called when they had earlier fights. We all saw it coming and nothing was done. As I was told by others, "If there's a next time, let them kill each other."
