Woman on Horse Charged with DUI
At first this doesn't seem so unusual but this case has a slight twist. The particular case involves the DUI of a woman on horseback! The charged woman had decided to take a midnight horse ride through her local town. She is thought to have used the horse to smash into a police car. Police have reported that he woman was charged with 'driving under the influence and drug offences.'
Local Police Chief, Brad Gregg told the Associated Press, "Cars were passing by having to avoid it, and almost hitting the horse." When asked how a DUI could apply to someone who was not in a vehicle Gregg explained that a DUI doesn't just have to apply to drinking under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The charge can still apply to a four-legged vehicle.
The incident occurred in Sylvania, Alabama, which is located in the northeastern part of the state. Police were informed of the drunken horse rider around midnight. The officer dispatched to deal with the situation was John Seals.
When Seals approached the woman on the horse he made attempts to stop her and get her to dismount. However even though Seals repeatedly called out to the woman she kept riding, kicking her horse to go faster. Gregg said, "She wouldn't stop. She kept riding the horse and going on."
After her attempts to make her horse gallop away from the police officer the drunken horse rider tried to smash her horse into the police car. When this attempt at escape failed the woman tried to jump off of the horse. However, this attempt at escape also failed and the woman caught her foot in the stirrup of her saddle. At this point the police officer was able to apprehend the woman.
When the woman was in custody a search uncovered that she has a number of narcotics and drug paraphernalia on her person. This included; marijuana, pills, crystal methamphetamine and a pipe.
A number of charges were placed on the woman. She was charge with a DUI, drug possession, trying to resist arrest, assault, trying to escape police, and animal cruelty.
The woman has been named as Melissa Byrum York and is 40 years old. Police said that the horse belonged to York and was ok but wasn't not in tip top shape when it was seen by police. York has been released on a $4,000 bond from DeKalb County Jail so that she could be taken to Jackson County jail for face warrants for her arrest for previous charges.

Post a Commenti know this woman, she is a low life, i also know the officer that arrested her and the county deputy that took her horse to his place to care for it.i used to work with her ex husband who resigned because she was caught stealing.she is the type of person that don't care who she hurts as long as she gets her way. and what you have not been told is that she rode the horse for about 5 miles from Rainsville to Sylvania at a gallop with no shoes, the deputy told me that he had to soak the horses feet in epsom salt for 2 days, the horse is a female and was in bad shape,under fed and neglected. it wasn't the marijuana that caused her to do this,it was the meth.everything about it is poison.
