Woman Robs a Bank, Claims It's on Her Bucket List

Pat Bartels
The first time I heard of a bucket list was when the movie Bucket List first came out in January of 2008. The movie starred Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman as the two main characters both of whom were dying of terminal illness. The two men became friends while in the hospital and each created a bucket list of things to do before they kicked the bucket. The rest of the movie was about their adventures of completing their bucket lists and eventually their deaths. This is a wonderful movie to watch, but I don't recall that there were any criminal activities on their lists.

Patricia Edwards walked into Bank of America in Sanford, Fla., and handed the teller a note that said she wanted cash. Problem is she didn't have an account. The teller handed her some cash and the woman left to meet some friends. Imagine the conversation that occurred when she met up with those friends. I wonder what they thought, or maybe she didn't tell them. Anyway the police caught up with her and arrested her. It was not disclosed how much cash she got.

What, might you ask, was the reason for this craziness? Patricia Edwards said that robbing a bank was on her bucket list. If I had a bucket list there might be things on it like, seeing the Great Wall of China, or going on a safari in Africa, or taking a cruise in Alaska.

You might feel sorry for the woman because she has cancer. According to news reports the woman told authorities that she had Leukemia, but that it wasn't terminal. She is 51 years old and also said that she was bipolar. I might have understood her wanting to rob a bank because she needed the money to pay for cancer treatments, but just for the thrill of doing something illegal doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

Believe it or not, but this isn't the only person that has robbed a bank and claimed that it was on a list. A 79 year old man by the name of Donald Evans did the same thing. He robbed a bank in Battle Creek, Mich., in February of 2010. He had robbing a bank on a list, it wasn't clear, though, if Evans had created the list as a bucket list specifically. He supposedly needed the money for women, gambling and alcohol.

Here's a tip: If you are planning on robbing a bank and claiming you did it because it was on your bucket list, don't do it. The authorities will still put you in jail.

It could be a two-for-one deal if 'serve 5-10' is also on your bucket list.
