Women in the Lead: Are Women Paid Equally to Men?

DrD
With all the discussion you've heard about how men are making more money than women, have you wondered, if they brought female executives into that decision statistic- who'd they talk to? The women that I know are highly successful, they don't need male income figures, they are setting their own, and, the companies that they run are doing superbly. My sense is that the study was skewed, that women are doing better than men want them to think they are, and so, they released this study. Women are taking the lead, and as you read on, see if you agree with me about what that means...

It is, first off, unfair to lump and label categories of people, managers whether they are gender segregated or not, should not be labeled- it isn't fair. So when the survey went out, were female executives part of the loop, or, was the loop labeled into a database that looked at, watch this..."working women." My sense is that the studies which have been done on pay have looked at the wrong set of data. But let's think through this together, and see if pay has anything to do with leadership?

Women are in the midst of revolutionary insights as to behavior, they are challenging the standards, the old fashioned way of looking at who they are, and they are setting a new standard of behavior. Some would want to portray that as crass and unfeeling feminism; but the truth is, feminism isn't crass nor is it unfeeling, quite the opposite, feminism represents a movement to bring ladies into a sense of awareness about how they have been mistreated and allowed themselves to buy into a victim mentality. Now they are busting out of that paradigm and moving into a sense of worth and incredible value.

One lady who leads by value is an incredible example of what it means to have heart in leadership. She is the perfect example of quality guidance in a manager and visionary outlook in a leader. She is constantly ensuring her bearing is of the highest caliber, she works at having a persona that projects success. In the midst of incredibly complicated negotiations, she is capable of setting her mind into a state of total awareness, while compartmentalizing huge and very bothersome issues elsewhere. She manages to keep her organization moving forward in a positive way, keeps the attitude of the people she leads positive, and all the while, increases their sense of their own worth by empowering them to succeed. She guides from the heart, she cares from the inner being and she is a leader of incredible skill.

Does this lady need any man to label or fence her into some plastic category that they believe defines who she is? Her greatness cannot be defined by standard means, while not being wealthy, she has achieved considerable worth on her own, and she does not need the help, assistance, or support of the males around her to define her greatness; she is totally in control of herself, in charge of her life, and moving positively forward with each day. In terms of leadership she possesses each of these characteristics in far more steed than the males around her: bearing, courage, decisiveness, dependability, endurance, enthusiasm, initiative, integrity, judgment, justice, knowledge, loyalty, tact and unselfishness. She is, what well recognized males like Jack Welch, have called, the center of refined leadership for the culture around her. Her success will lead others, and she is an example worthy of being followed.

Does she have flaws, no; in fact, she is even so humble as to not recognize her own greatness. Such a person will be recognized, and such a person will rise to the top, and she is; but she does so in a way that does not offend those who she leads. Is this not what we want when we discuss leadership? Can such an individual not be paid, if not now, certainly in the not too distant future, a huge sum to lead many? Wouldn't you love to have such a person in your organization, and be able to have her quality of leadership for six figures? Yes, women are changing how they lead and how they are, welcome them with open arms men, or, find yourselves outpaced by the wonder of their skills.

  • Women may be paid less in some circumstances than a male counterpart but that isn't permanent
  • Women can rise and do rise to positions of leadership it is no longer just a "mans" game
  • If we look at the situation on a case by case basis it may not be an accurate presumption
Today, there are more women in executive and managerial positions than ever before, bringing increasing opportunities to impact major business arenas--and overcome long-standing gender biases. -Harvard Business Review

I believe a little too much focus is placed on all the wrongs in the business world. I wish life could be a little more equally naturally and without outside interference.

Thank you Donna appreciate the comment - it's an area that folks don't think about until they are in it. -Dana

Bang up job here Dana. Admittedly I've not really been concerned about this - though it does bug me that most the so-called tech and internet marketing experts are 95% male, when in reality it's probably more like 60/40.
