Women Over 40: Five Ways to Use Make-up to Look Younger

Stephanie Modkins
If you're a woman over 40, you know that make-up can cause you to look younger or older. The final outcome all depends on how you apply certain products. So, here's some help. Avoid looking like a sad clown by incorporating the following make-up tips in your daily routine.

1- Go easy on black eyeliner.
Only the very young can carry off black eyeliner. Why? They have no wrinkles or creases around their eyes that stand out with dark colors. Women who are more mature should go for muted, lighter colors and avoid lining their lower lid. This tactic will open up your eyes in a soft way.

2- Rethink your blue eye shadow.
For women over 40, blue eye shadow is tricky. This make-up can make you look dated, not younger, unless you select the right shade. Mature women who pull off this color well often avoid metallic and go for darker, sheer shades that match a blouse or pair of pants. This technique complements the wearer.

3- Use cover-up that matches your color.
Opt for a cover-up that closely matches your color. The temptation with most women - young and old - is to go extra light. Unfortunately, this only draws attention to the fact you're trying to hide dark circles. As a result, you end up aging yourself. Instead, try to find a color as close to your natural skin tone as possible and blend well. Your skin will appear more even and smooth.

4- Switch out your red rouges for pinks.
Rouge is a term some of you women over 40 still use to describe blush. You can use this make-up to look younger if you go for pinks instead of reds. Bright reds call attention to spots, lines and other things most mature women don't want to stand out. On the contrary, a pink that blends in with your natural highlights brings out your cheek bones without shining a bright light on imperfections.

5- Apply less make-up to your face.
The temptation for anyone who's past thirty is to start piling on the make-up. You think you need to in order to appear beautiful. Unfortunately, this is not true. Heavy make-up does quite the contrary. It can make you look harsh and old. Opt for light make-up that softens your appearance and let your god-given features shine through. This way, you appear confident and elegant.

These make-up tips will help you look 40 and fabulous. Use them and show your best face every day.
