1. Heart Disease- Heart diseases are the leading killer of older women. 1 in every 3 women over the age 65 has some kind of cardiovascular disease. 250,00 deaths a year are caused by heart attacks in women.
2.Breast Cancer- this affects women of all ages. However over 80% of the cases for breast cancer show up in women after menopause.
Symptoms for breast cancer are lumps, persistent breast pain, nipple discharge, dimpling, or looking as if the skin is being pulled on from the inside.
3.Overian cancer- this mainly affects women age 45 or older. Studies say that women in this age range make up 90% of the cases of ovarian cancer.
Symptoms of ovarian cancer are indigestion, bloating, nausea, unusual vaginal bleeding, the early signs of ovarian cancer are hard to identify.
4.Osteoporosis- this is the thinning of the bones, which is linked to the lack of estrogen usually cause by menopause. 1 in every 2 women will suffer a fracture after the age 50.
Symptoms of osteoporosis are fractures easily; mostly in places such as hips, wrists, spine, and legs.
5.High blood pressure- this affects women more as they age. Half of all women over age 50 have high blood pressure.
6.Depression- this affects about 1 in every 5 women at some point in their lifetime. This is more than double that for men.
7.Obesity- 62% of women aged 20-74 are overweight or have obesity. Studies show that in the past few years being obese is much more common among women over there 40's than it was just a few years ago.
8.High cholesterol- many older women have high cholesterol along with low bone density. Women over age 65 should regularly be checked for both conditions.
9.colorectal cancer- as know as colon cancer this mainly affects the elderly, women over age 60.
10.Cervical Cancer- this mostly affects women between the ages of 25- 65
Symptoms of cervical cancer are bleeding between periods, or after sex, after menopause, or discomfort during sex.
