Women Seeking Men?

What About Me?!

Karen Francis
I recently took some time out of my rather busy schedule to enjoy a spa day. It was to be a day where I could put away my Coach daily planner and just enjoy being pampered. You know, just some me time which working women rarely get these days.

When it came time for the manicure portion of my spa day, I had a male technician and we began talking about the economy and the challenges Georgians are having with gas and food prices. So I said to the young man, "you know your business will always grow, because you're in the business of making people feel beautiful and that's a good thing". He smiled at me and responded, "yes, this is true, but you know the real reason women come here"? He peeked my curiosity so I responded "why"? He said, "Because women are competing for men".

After he picked me up from the floor, I shook my head and asked him if he was kidding. The male spa technician went on to say, "No, women are fighting over men, so they have to look better then the next woman". I realized this guy was being very frank and honest about how he saw it, so I had to give him some grace. I went on to tell him that I have been working since I was 15 years old and not just working, but working very hard. I always look at a spa day as a day where I can unwind and just enjoy some rest and relaxation. I have never considered going to a spa in order to attract a man!

I am not saying that wives shouldn't want to look nice for their husband's nor am I saying that women don't from time to time dress nice for a date. However, to say that the main reason women frequent spa's is to attract or keep a man in my opinion is ridiculous! There is always going to be a women that people consider more beautiful, more educated and even more fashion forward then some other women. Therefore, women should celebrate the gifts and the beauty that God has given them and not consider their sister a threat or competition for a man. As someone once told me, "if a woman can take your man, then he was never yours in the first place". No one can take what God has for you, because it is for you!

Needless to say, we decided to agree to disagree and I went back to reading my magazine and he went back to doing his job. This young man's comment made me wonder, "Are there woman out there that think that way"? So ladies, I am opening this up for discussion. In your opinion, do women have spa treatments and take care of themselves to attract men?

What say you?
