Learn in this women's guide about silicone II. A product review of GE's Silicone II Bath & Kitchen.

GE Silicone II: Silicone Sealant Information

This product is 100% silicone sealant. This means it is mold and mildew resistant once it sets up. General Electric even has a trademark name of BioSeal for this quality. Silicone sealant makes a watertight seal that doesn't shrink or crack. Silicone II also has a lifetime guarantee.

Women's Guide to Silicone II: A Products Review: Package Warnings

GE warns that breathing uncured silicone sealant might cause headaches and other symptoms. I didn't notice anything but the product was used outside. Silicone II also warns to be careful with skin contact but I had no problem. I was able to use it without touching the silicone sealant.

Women's Guide to Silicone II: A Products Review: Other Details

On the tube, GE offers a refund and telephone number for questions. The cost is $3.89 (plus tax) for a 2.8 fl. oz. tube from Home Depot. Silicone II has a replaceable cap that makes a fairly air-tight seal. Small pouches of $1.75 fl. oz. GE silicone caulk are available for one time use too.

Women's Guide to Silicone II: A Products Review: Downside

Because of a seam on the tube, the wording is on the rounded part of the tube rather than across the back. This means you can't read the directions or warnings easily. It is also a very toxic material which means you don't want to leave the tube anywhere a child might find it. Since I am trying to be green, I'll have to find something else for future use. California considers a chemical in it to cause cancer.

Women's Guide to Silicone II: A Products Review: My Experience with Electrical Wiring

I found Silicone II a very easy product to use. The product comes in a tube eliminating the need for a caulking gun. Cut diagonally across the tip and squeeze. Then, cure for about an hour. Replace the cap and the silicone sealant job is done.

Women's Guide to Silicone II: A Products Review

I was thrilled to find this product because electrical tape was all you had to repair electrical wiring in the past. Then, waterproofing was always a challenge. With silicone II, it's the only product you need plus you don't have all that clumsy wrapping like you have with electrical tape.

The only thing to be aware of is to make sure the electrical wires are clean before applying silicone II. That's it for this women's guide and product review of silicone II. Click here to read how I repaired the electrical wires in my lawn sprinkler system with silicone II.
