Women's Health: What You Should Know About Premenstrual Syndrome

Have your menstrual periods been bothering you a lot? If you are one of those women who suffer some severe symptoms just before your menstrual period starts, do not be overly alarmed. According to studies, women with PMS are actually emotionally healthy.
Just because you sometimes cannot control your anger or you feel so depressed just before your menstrual period starts doesn't mean that you have some psychological problems or something.

PMS is a very common condition and there is nothing to be ashamed of the fact that you do not feel really well every time you have your menstruation. According to studies, about 40% of women all over the world suffer from PMS every month. The severity of the symptoms would vary but it is very common for women having PMS to feel irritable and emotional. Studies show also that women in their 30's and 40's are more prone to PMS than their younger counterparts. PMS tends to get worst as the woman ages and would peak around the time when she begins to have menopausal symptoms.

Women who have had many children often suffer more during PMS. According to studies, women who have had some episodes of depression in the past and have had some difficult pregnancies could suffer more pain and discomfort during these periods that those women who have had lesser children and did not have difficult pregnancies. Furthermore, experts believe that women whose mothers suffered severed PMS symptoms late in life have higher risk of suffering the same types of symptoms as their mothers.

When to seek help when suffering from PMS?

It is always a good idea to seek for medical help if you are suffering from PMS. Even though PMS is a very condition among women, there are times when you should see a doctor and ask for help about your situation. If you could not concentrate on your work or your school performance is affected by your condition, you should consider seeing a doctor. Moreover, if you notice some disturbing physical symptoms just before your menstrual period starts see your doctor. Although breast tenderness, bloating and headaches are common symptoms of PMS should see a doctor if you notice some abnormal changes in your body. Breast tenderness, bloating and headaches that are quite severe could be symptoms of some other diseases so it is a good idea to see your doctor to rule out possibilities of other diseases.
