Wonder La: The Park
After fighting traffic for an hour, we reached Wonder La, located along the Bengaluru-Mysore Highway in the southern part of India. Although things were quite laid-back at the entrance, the amusement park was a pleasant surprise.
Wonder La was sparkling clean and well maintained. Cutouts of Bamba, the vibrant monkey mascot hanging on branches welcomed us at regular intervals. The setting was colorful and kids friendly, just as I hoped. The park was huge! Sprawled across 82 acres of conserved and gorgeously landscaped plants and trees, the amusement park was a delight.
The range of facilities impressed me: lockers and changing rooms, phone booth and souvenir shop, among others.
Rides
The kids were ecstatic looking at Wonder La's eclectic ride selection. Displaying land and water rides, Wonder La had everything from high thrill rides and water slides to wave and musical pools, laser shows and theater shows.
With several choices available and rides catering to all skill level, the family happily settled down in the playful environment. While I was contented relaxing in the wave pool, the family tried out rides like Insanity, Techno Jump and Maverick to get their adrenaline rushing.
With sanitation being such a huge issue with India, I must say that the water in the wave pool was a sparkling shade of clear blue with not an iota of dirt. Wonder La took great care to maintain the safety by providing safety harnesses. Park personnel trained in first-aid procedures and dressed in uniforms roamed to answer your questions and provide assistance.
Restaurants
Wonder La was meticulously planned: restaurants and food kiosks were available near the main attractions. Five restaurants offering vegetarian, ethnic South Indian fare and other Indian cuisines were present to treat your gastronomical senses. We tried two throughout the day and were pleased with the cleanliness, hygiene and the service. The price was moderate too.
While we savored on a hearty meal of dosas, idlis and sambhar, the kids were satisfied with the Indian version of American pizza.
Indoor Musical Fountain and Laser Show
Although we missed the indoor musical fountain and laser show, I have heard raving reviews about it. It is India's only indoor water fountain show where water dances to the tunes of music and light.
Our five-hour adventure concluded at Wonder La with a trip to the ice cream parlor, which was an added cherry on top! I looked at my kids who happily licked the dripping strawberry ice cream.
"So, how was it?" I asked.
"Mom, can we come back?"
While I nodded, their dad beamed.
