Wonder Woman: Is Adrianne Palicki the Best Choice?

NBC is finally doing something comic book fans have been longing for, bringing the iconic Wonder Woman character back to the screen, albeit the small screen. Finally, in a move that should reboot the interest in this super heroine, we will see the role made famous by Lynda Carter come back into our living room on a weekly basis.

Unfortunately, with all great characters, the person chosen to portray them can unite or divide a fan base. NBC has cast Adrianne Palicki to play Diana Prince, and many will wonder if this was the right choice. Palicki is best known for her character "Tyra" on the cult television classic "Friday Night Lights." She played a strong girl with fight and courage who also wasn't afraid to show a great deal of emotion.

Before that, many might remember her for her role as a young girl who claimed to be Clark's cousin Kara on "Smallville."

She is obviously a beautiful woman with great acting chops and a penchant for connecting with fans, so on the surface this looks like a real home run. The major criticism here is that even with a great dye job, she will always look more "The Hills" than an Amazon Princess. With that in mind, her ability to play this role will probably always result in the feeling that she succeeded, but what if Wonder Woman had been played by another?

The problem here is finding a woman who can be all that Wonder Woman is supposed to be. A few names that many have thrown out who might "look" more the part are Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell and Bridget Regan. All which have a little more of the dramatic look needed for the role, and all natural brunette's. However, Lucy doesn't have the curves, Shay seems to lack the maturity the character requires and Bridget may not have the fan base needed to launch a show of this magnitude.

That being said, Adrianne Palicki is probably the best choice for this television reboot. She is a breath of fresh air for those comic fans who long to see this female hero back in the limelight. It is a win for the network and everyone who has patiently waited for Wonder Woman to once again find a place in this recent world of television remakes and reboots.

I would caution movie makers who will use this to springboard the hoped success onto the big screen; let Adrianne have television, but find someone else for the movie.
