Hamsa Wall Hangings
Symbolizing the five books of the Torah, the Hamsa is a popular good luck charm amongst Jews. Hamsas are available in hundreds of sizes, styles and colors and make excellent Mother's Day gifts for Jewish moms. Many Hamsas feature blessings for the home or health. Some stores such as Mazal Judaica (http://www.mazaljudaica.ca) have Hamsa kits that you can decorate yourself for that Mother's Day gift with the personal touch.
Planting a Tree in Israel
This is a personal favorite gift in my family. Show your mother how much you love her by having a tree planted in her name in Israel! What better way to symbolize Mother's Day than planting a tree in Mother Earth? Organizations like the Jewish National Fund (http://www.jnf.org/) are set up to allow you to purchase trees individually for a reasonable price (less than $20 each). If you are someone who really wants to do something truly special, you can purchase Mom an entire grove of trees for $5,000. Custom certificates commemorating the trees are available in a number of styles and can be laminated or mounted on plaques. This is a neat gift that also helps out the environment!
Chachkes
Every Jewish mother loves chachkes. For those who are not familiar with the term, a chachke is a knick-knack. We've all seen those obnoxious little figurines that are just oozing with cuteness. Those wonderfully tacky little curios that defy description. These are chachkes and Jewish mothers eat them up. From a "Fiddler on the Roof" figure to a cartoonish Moses holding aloft the Ten Commandments, there are tons of cutesy chachkes to be found that are sure to get a smile from Mom. Judaica Worldwide.com (http://www.judaicaworldwide.com/judaica.asp) has an enormous selection of chachkes that run in the $40-50 range. If you do not want to stick with a Jewish theme to your chachkes, your options become truly staggering. From inexpensive Precious Moments figurines (http://www.preciousmoments.com/) to the more expensive Hummel figurines (http://www.mihummel.com/home.asp) there is the perfect knick-knack for that perfect Mother
Flowers
Sometimes you just have to go with the classics. Nothing brightens the face of a Mother (Jewish or otherwise) on Mother's Day like a honking big bouquet of flowers. I don't think there's a Mother around who wouldn't be delighted to have her children fill her house with bright, beautiful flowers. The best way to do it is to show up at the door with the flowers in hand. If that isn't an option, there are a number of flower delivery services available to ensure that Mom gets her flowers right on time. FTD (http://www.FTD.com) and 1-800-FLOWERS are two of the more reliable sources for flower delivery.
