Wonderful TV Shows from 2000-2009

The 2000 decade brought with it a fantastic time for television. From reality shows to comedies and dramas, there was a favorite television show for everyone.

My favorite television show premiered on ABC on September 22, 2004. LOST became a phenomenon from the beginning. Stars like Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lilly, and Dominic Monaghan brought their characters' life stories to life. LOST is a show about a plane that crashes on a mysterious island. A few of those mysteries are polar bears in the tropical climate, a four toed statue, a frozen donkey wheel that, when turned, sends the island inhabitants back in time. A lot of mystery surrounds the plot of LOST and should be revealed in the final early 2010 season. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LOST_(tvseries)

Another show I have been unable to miss since its airing is Ghost Whisperer. Ghost Whisperer aired on CBS on September 23, 2005. It stars Jennifer Love Hewitt as Melinda Gordon who can see and communicate with spirits of the deceased. Her goal is to help these spirits with their final needs so they will enter the light and be at peace. Most episodes have a story and the story is completed within the one hour time slot. A few stories have taken more than one hour time slot such as the story of the plane crash that killed Melinda's friend and business partner Andrea. A more recent episode centered on the death of Melinda's husband Jim and his entrance into the body of a man named Sam. Several episodes passed before Jim realized who he was. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_Whisperer

Charmed was another of my favorite television shows this past decade. Charmed aired from October 7, 1998 until May 21, 2006 on the WB network. The series focused on three sisters who were the most powerful white witches in the world and learned this fact only after the death of their grandmother who had bound their powers. The sisters were known as "the power of three" and their goal was to save innocent people from evil beings such as demons and warlocks; while remaining alive themselves. These same bad guys attempted to steal their powers. Charmed stars Holly Marie Combs as Piper, Alyssa Milano as Phoebe, Shannen Doherty as Prudence, and Rose McGowan as Paige. In Season 3, Prue is killed and Shannen Doherty leaves the show. Paige is introduced in a subsequent episode and completes the "power of three". Pru, Phoebe, and Piper did not know of Paige's existence as her birth was the result of their mother's affair with her "white lighter" or protector. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/charmed

Cold Case is another excellent television series that aired in the 2000 decade. It premiered on the CBS network on 28 Sept 2003. Cold Case stars Kathryn Morris, Danny Lino, John Finn, Jeremy Ratchford, etc. Cold Case's premise is of a police department in Pennsylvania specializing in solving cold cases. Flashbacks begin each show to indicate the year (and sometimes date) a crime occurred. The present day shows detectives prompted to investigate that old case by some type of new evidence reveal-such as the person's remains being found. Gradually the detectives gain enough evidence to know who is guilty. The show then fills in the missing part of the story. The show also reviews daily problems in the lives of the detectives but the main focus is which cold case will be solved that week. http://en.wikipedia.org./wiki/Cold_Case

Another good television show from the 2000-2010 decade, is Reba. Reba premiered on the WB in 2001. It stayed on that network until the final season (2006-2007) when it was moved to the CW. Starring Reba McEntire, Christopher Rich, Joanna Garcia, Steve Howey, Scarlett Pomers, etc Reba was one of my favorite television shows of the past decade. The main character, Reba Nell Hart, is left by her dentist husband Brock who marries a dim-witted, younger blonde named Barbara Jean. Barbara Jean's pregnancy occurs before Brock and Reba are divorced. The show follows Reba parenting her two daughters and young son as well as the boyfriend of her older daughter, Cheyenne. Cheyenne becomes pregnant during her Senior year in high school and her boyfriend is asked to leave his house for supporting her so he moves in with Reba's family. Van (the boyfriend) and Reba become real estate partners in the fifth season. There was never an adequate ending with this series. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reba_(TVseries)

My new favorite show of the 2000-2010 decade is ABC's Flash Forward. Flash Forward began on 24 Sept 2009 and is based loosely on a novel of the same name by Robert J. Sawyer. Starring John Cho, Joseph Fiennes, Sonya Walger, Dominic Monaghan, etc Flash Forward is a show about a mysterious events that causes the entire planet to go unconscious for 137 seconds. During those 137 seconds, most of the planet sees their lives six months into the future. Those who do not have a "flash forward" have thus far appeared to be dead or will die before the six month period in advance of the visions occurs. Flash Forward focuses on the FBI trying to understand what caused the blackout. http://en.wikipedi.org/wiki/FlashForward_(American2009-TV-series)

Earlier in the decade, one of my favorite television shows was American Idol. American Idol was a smash hit of the decade. Premiering on 11 Jun 2002, the show's purpose was to search the nation for the best singer within the teenage-young adult age range. Through the decision of the judges' (Until 2009 Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell) the number of acceptable performances would be narrowed to a lesser number. Then in future weeks, audience decision determine who continued in the competition. Ultimately, thirteen or so finalists compete live and votes are placed via the telephone, Internet, and text messaging determining which competitors would go on. It eventually is narrowed to the final two and then a winner is chosen by America's votes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_idol

CSI: Criminal Scene Investigation is another phenomenal hit of the 2000-2010 decade. CSI began on the CBS network on 6 October 2000. It stars Laurence Fishburne, Marg Helgenberger, George Eads, Eric Szmanda, Robert David Hall, etc as criminologists in Las Vegas who study grisly crime scenes and who committed the murders/cases. CSI has spun off to include CSI: Miami and CSI: NY.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CSI:_Crime_Scene_Investigation

Grounded for Life was a comedy that aired on the FOX network beginning Jan 10, 2001. In 2003, the show was moved to the WB until the series finale in 2005. Grounded for Life starred Donal Logue, Megyn Price, Kevin Corrigan, Griffin Frazen, Lynsey Bartilison. The show starred an Irish family in Staten Island, New York. The adult parents married at age eighteen and had their first child so they are also somewhat young and inexperienced. Each episode seems to bring a problem but the family works together to solve them. http://en.wikipedi.org/wiki/Grounded_for_Life

One of my favorite television shows for the 2000-2010 decade was not one enough people agreed with. Tru Calling lasted a mere 26 episodes. Debuting on the FOX network in October 2003, Tru Calling starred Elisha Dushu, A.J. Cook, Zach Galifianakis, Shawn Reeves, and Jason Priestly. A young woman named Tru works at a morgue and often faces surprises when the corpse awakens and asks for her help. She then awakens to find the day started over and makes an attempt to find the person and stop the death. Jack (Jason Priestley's character) is introduced to try to keep Tru from helping the lives be saved. Tru's parents had been on opposing sides in this as well. The show ended without an appropriate finale to sum things up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tru_Calling
