Thats the story they tell you when you visit WonderWorks. I took my kids there 2 months ago and we had the best time ever. The upside down building on I-drive has always intrigued me and I just couldn't hold it in anymore, I had to go and see for myself what it was all about, and I definitely was not let down. When you first walk up to the building its not hard to tell its completely upside down. The trees are hanging upside down from what is now the roof, there is also a public mail box up there among tons of wires and pipes that are supposed to be in the ground. Just the outside alone is exciting. When you walk in the front door everything looks normal till you look up. There's an upside down stair case and a chandelier.
Once you pay and are ready to start your adventure you step into a inversion tunnel that flips you upside down. I don't know how my kids walked through the short tunnel without any problems because me and my husband had to hold on to the railing for dear life. The tunnel floor is a short, straight path way with railing on either side but the tunnel itself is a revolving tube with beams of light traveling in a circle. Once you take one step inside you literally feel like you are being flipped upside down. Your equilibrium gets messed up and your body starts to tilt to the side with the motion of the lights. Its one wild feeling. Once your passed the tunnel your journey really begins.
The very first attraction my kids dragged me to was a hurricane simulator. The man running the simulator hands you a pair of plastic safety glasses and you step inside. Its really just a big box with a few poles to hang onto. The simulators winds get up to 65mph, typical of a mild hurricane. Living in Fl. I've been through alot worse, but it was fun watching my girls try to keep their glasses on their faces. Once we were done with that we were off to Earthquakes. A sit down simulator makes you feel like your in a 5.3 on the Richter scale. It was very interesting, not what I expected a earthquake to feel like.
After a few mind boggling illusions that test your perception and perspective we were off to the bed of nails. My kids couldn't wait to lay on a bed of nails, including my 3 year old. The bed of nails just like everything else in WonderWorks was not what I expected. Its was actually rather comfy, so to speak. With your body weight even distributed on 3,497 nails you don't feel a thing, unless you have bony elbows like me. That was my only complaint there.
Have you ever wanted to put your kids and your husband in a bubble before? Well you can at WonderWorks, and I did. The bubble room was actually alot of fun. We got to experiment with all different types of bubble making systems to make all different size bubbles. After that I found out I'm really 34. No, not in reality. I'm only 26, but according to the health survey on the health/age computers I'm in fact 8 years older than I thought I was. Then on the image aging computer I got to see what I will look like when I do turn 34, not to bad if I do say so myself.
My daughters even landed the Discovery Space Shuttle and flew fighter jets. We sat through a 3-D haunted mansion, which of course gave my kids nightmares. Then after all that we went through a voice morph. Its a machine that can change your voice to sound deeper or higher or even make you sound like an alien. The one thing we all got a kick out of was the huge floor piano just like the one Tom Hanks jumped around on in the movie Big. Me and my oldest daughter got to design our own roller coaster and ride it. It was a blast, you make the roller coaster any way you want it. Of course we had upside down loops to go with our whole upside down adventure. The virtual roller coaster ride had 360 degree pitches, upside down loops, and fast paced drops, it was definitely better than an adventure park coaster.
Among all the rides, attractions, and simulators WonderWorks had an exorbitant collection of facts framed all over the walls. We learned that astronauts cannot cry in space because there is no gravity to make the tears flow, and ergophobia is the fear of work, a camel's spine is in fact straight, a crickets ears are on its knees, and Hershey's kisses are called kisses because the machine that makes them looks like it is kissing the conveyor belt.
WonderWorks also provides live entertainment for dinner. They have an exceptional outta control dinner magic show. I guarantee you and your kids will love this one. Another great bonus is lazer tag. We never did make it to play lazer tag because we had our 3 year old with us, but it is definitely something we would like to do on our next visit to WonderWorks.
Outside of the over 100 interactive exhibits WonderWorks provides, and all the fun you and your family are sure to have, they are surprisingly reasonable. The hours of operations are from 9:00am to midnight daily and the prices are as follows:
Wonder Works (over 100 interactive exhibits): Child (4-12) & seniors 55+ $14.95 Adults $19.95
Lazer Tag (one game only): Child (4-12) & seniors 55+ $4.95 Adults $4.95

The address is 9067 International Dr. Orlando, Fl. 32818
