Of Course, New York is paving the way... Praise their big diverse city humanity! I know they're not the first to pass this law. But sincerely, I think this nation is finally making its path towards World Peace. It all starts here, my friends, in our backyard. We as Americans do not have half as many problems with other countries as we do with our own neighbors. So, I say, Woo Hoo for Gay Marriage! I personally have no stake in the Rights of married couples; Gay, Straight, Bi Sexual or anywhere in between for that matter... but I think such achievements, as the acceptance of Gay Rights, are a grand stepping stone for equal rights to all, despite religion, race, sex or sexual preferences.
The brief article I read this evening put such a smile on my face, such pep in my step that I really don't know what to do with myself. I blame Obama for this... That's right... I would like to Thank him personally; Not because I believe he is solely responsible, I honestly do not follow politics closely enough to even guess at who is accountable for what, but such a fantastic change in our country as an evidently racially mixed president has most likely opened numerous doors for all Americans who were too afraid to stand up for themselves before. What's next? Maybe a bi-sexual Buddhist American born Pilipino President, who wins our fight against drugs, completely abolishes the national debt and pollution, lowers gas prices enough that even the poor can afford to take vacations again and cures cancer. What? It's possible, I have hope.
Now all we have to tackle are discrimination in the work place, at some eateries and general stores, insurance companies & residential acceptance preferences based on discrimination, credit scores, physical appearance, hair color, body modifications, age and God knows what-all they use these days to keep you out of a good home, restaurant or job... But yes, I think we are definitely on our way.
It makes me sad to know that the word "faggot" is still a popular insult on playgrounds in even the best of schools and that I will most likely not live to see the day when we all really do genuinely love one another, but it does my heart good to see any kind of improvement. I consider myself a very spiritual person but cannot be a part of a church or religious organization because I do love everyone. I know it sounds funny to say out loud but the thirty plus years I have spent on this earth have taught me that there is only partial love for the world in every organization that exists.
Hate has been the driving force behind so many things for so many years that I really do think that it's not previous generations' fault that things have always been so out of hand. We just need to train ourselves and our elders the Golden Rule. I mean, how would you feel if the small perks you get from your marriage were not allowed because the masses just didn't like your spouse? How would you feel if because your country didn't like your spouse, you were unable to adopt or turned down for a new house; all because of the closed minded prejudice that has plagued popular society for hundreds of years? EVOLVE, man... It's only fair. Or don't... Because I have to tell you, everyone else is going to, with or without you.
And finally, some advice from this writer: No one chooses to be significantly different, guys; just as no one chooses whether or not they like avocados, sushi, Mexican food, hot dogs without all the fixings, newer SUVs that are in no way really utility vehicles anymore the smaller and smaller they get or Apple over Windows... No matter how ignorant or ridiculous I personally think some decisions are at a glance, I respect other people's preferences (Unless they harm someone else, of course). Am I a Zen Master, do you ask? No. I'm just a guy who enjoys good natured tranquility when possible and publishes my opinions, whether you want to hear them or not.
