Wood Crafts for Your Child

Jacob Lewis
Kid crafts are generally associated with paper, glue, and scissors and if you want it, glitter. Did you know that children enjoy wood crafts just as much if they are able to get their hand on it? Wood craft sounds difficult for kids but you can start with simple projects and help them get into the world of wood crafting which can also help them with their confidence.

Converting unfinished wood to a useful object that can be used around the house is a source of wonder for the child. By doing this they immediately feel that they are capable and accomplished. The creating of things with their own hands helps to improve their motor skills, plus the ability to tackle problems. It is the same as many other crafts, but gives wider scope to their imagination and individual expression. If the child has this sort of artistic way of expressing things it will vastly improve his or her communication skills, besides giving them a lot of confidence. Be a good parent and help your child to develop, by providing them with a wood work project that will be a big boost for their pride and opinion of themselves. Schools have unfortunately abandoned this method of encouraging children, so if you fill this gap you could do a lot for the child and help him develop craft that will last for years.

Did you know that such projects even have a market on E bay which could bring extra income? A child will be thrilled to bits if a piece he has crafted is really purchased by somebody. This can help you to introduce your child to commerce and money and make him aware that learning can be turned into profit.

The simplest of things to make when you start your child on woodcraft is to have him make a key holder. Children are aware of misplaced keys in the house and latch on to this as a good idea, instantly. They will feel proud to make such key holders from pegs or wooden spindles and present them to their parents.

Why not a letter holder as a project. Let the child choose his own colors. His curiosity in the matter could help you to introduce him to the world of mail and stamps. Alternatively, make a butterfly house to keep in your back garden. The butterflies that it attracts could be a further source of wonderment for the child.

A toy box for the child could be another interesting project. Encourage the kids to sandpaper the finished box and paint it up in colors of their choice. The permutations and combinations in every one of these projects are endless. You can, if you so desire, opt for woodworking kits that are easily available. This may give the child a wider variety of things to do, which may keep him more interested in woodcraft than ever before. The pre-cut wood parts would assemble into neat toy trucks or animals or whatever the child has chosen for his kit.
