Wood is Good

So Many Uses … Too Often Taken for Granted

David A. Reinstein, LCSW

To build homes
And make toothpicks,
Mulched into paper
Then into maché -
The flesh of trees
Has many functions
Helping people
Have their way.

Floors and guitars,
Drums and rings,
Desks and chairs
And countless
Other things.
Magic wands
And courtroom gavels,
Spools to stem thin thread
Unravels,
Furniture of every type
Of grained cut trees;
It needs no hype.

But if someday
The trees are gone,
Our war on nature
Won't have been won;
There's always plastic
So long as there's oil,
Though wood is less likely
To corrode, stink or soil.

Wood is good
And deserves respect
For how we treat
Our resources,
In all likelihood,
Influences
The Karma we get.

David, good poem Laura Everly When I'm in the woods sometimes think about how we can be wasteful and think about what if trees actually took revenge on humans Laura Everly

    Nice.

I tossed the carpet last year, revealing the oak floor beneath. Despite the need for sanding and finishing, it's still beautiful.

love the texture, the smell, the very creation of wood--Norwegian or otherwise!

Wood = good = neat = heat! But seriously, a seriously good wood poem, thanks.

Impressive. Nicely constructed, but then as you point out, wood is a fine material to work with--as long as we take care so that it will always be around!

Well done. Unfortunately, "our war on nature" does not bode well for good karma.
