Appropriately named Whispers of Serenity: Center for Massage, Relaxation and Personal Growth, services include massage by Margaret Skordas, reflexology by Liz Heaton, life coaching, and hands-on healing prayer and ministerial services by Dr. Kymn Harvin. In addition, massage intern Rebecca Underwood will be serving clients beginning in February.
"Many people go through life and never have the chance to make their dreams come true," Margaret said. "I am blessed with my husband John, colleagues, family and friends who have supported me in bringing Whispers of Serenity to life."
Margaret is a 1999 graduate of a 500-hour massage therapy program in Philadelphia. She offers various modalities including Swedish, chair, pregnancy and infant/child massage, special stretching techniques as well as hot stone massage and aromatherapy. In addition, as a result of a new shower facility within the multi-room center, sea salt, loofah and other body treatments are available.
Liz Heaton, known throughout the area as Reflexology by Liz and newly elected as Vice-President of the Greater Woodbine Chamber of Commerce, has her own office at Whispers of Serenity. She offers reflexology for the feet and hands, providing overall relaxation, stress relief, and well-being. Liz became a certified reflexologist in 1994, after caring for a woman dying of cancer.
"My husband Curt and I felt somewhat helpless as we provided hospice services for a dear friend, wanting to do more to ease her suffering. Realizing the amazing power of touch spurred me to study the healing arts, so I could offer my services to those in need," Liz said.
Rounding out the trio at Whispers of Serenity is Dr. Kymn (like Kim) Harvin. She is the author of "Bringing LOVE Back into Business," and has served as a business leader and consultant, speech writer and faculty member at Penn State and the University of Phoenix. Dr. Kymn provides spiritual care, hands-on healing energy sessions (known as Reiki) and life coaching.
"After a 25-year career climbing the corporate ladder and working 60 to 80 hours a week, I realized it is what lies within that is most important. My focus now is on helping people free themselves from the hurts and pains of the past, build healthy relationships," said Dr. Kymn, who lives with her husband Vince in Steelmantown. "I am especially drawn to working with people at 'change points' in their lives - marriage, divorce, fighting a serious illness, or facing death. Consider me as someone who will hold your hand and your heart through it all."
Rebecca Underwood, a massage intern, will begin offering her services early next year. Rebecca, who is currently studying at the Harris School in Linwood, has a cheery disposition and a gentle spirit.
This collection of powerful, healing women at Whispers of Serenity has created a haven from the rat race. When you walk into the center, soft music is playing, a blue-sky room with complimentary "Sereni-Tea" beckons, and gentle reminders to "breathe," "relax," "let go" and "dream" capture your attention. Clients are encouraged to come early or stay after appointments, have a cup of tea, peruse the gift boutique, and take time to allow the healing energy to permeate.
The center offers gift certificate specials for the holidays. In 2007, they will begin offering monthly workshops, spa and bridal parties, wellness days and other services.
Whispers of Serenity is located at 546 Washington Avenue (next to Dionysus Restaurant) in Woodbine, New Jersey. If you live in the Cape May County New Jersey are, call today for an appointment at 609-861-1234.
