Woodburn, Oregon, Bank Bomber Identified as Joshua Abraham Turnidge

A man suspected of carrying out the bombing of a West Coast Bank in Woodburn, close the city of Portland, Oregon, has been named. Joshua Abraham Turnidge, who is 32 years old and from Salem, was arrested Sunday night at around 9pm at an address on Nolan Lane in North East Salem, but the District Attorney's Office has only released the man's name today. Two distant relatives said Turnidge is from a family that dates back to the 1880s or so, and the family was involved in the beginnings of a local private school.

Joshua Abraham Turnidge who has been held up at Marion County Jail, and is being booked with a number of charges, which include the murder of the two officers killed, and other charges relating to the explosion.In a statement by Marion County deputy district attorney, Courtland Greyer said, " If charged Turnidge could face the death penalty." Officials at the office did not confirm if they are going to pursue the death penalty. Although went on to say "It's clearly on the table."

Turnidge will also be facing charges of manufacture of a destructive device, possession of a destructive device, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated murder, and two counts of attempted aggravated murder, The district attorney's office said.

Police had been conducting surveillance apparently from a neighbors home, which belongs to Marie Kennedy. After they spotted a vehicle that they believed to be related to the investigation, in the driveway of the house Turnidge was at. It was then after some minutes police then made the move to arrest him.

Marion County Sheriff Russ Isham said. "We know there is still a lot of hard work ahead of us, but this development will help bring relief to the local community and the officer's families,"

It has become apparent that on Sunday night detectives on the case, had found out what the items were, that could have been used to make the bomb. They had been bought in Bend last month sometime. But authorities where not keen to discuss how the items had been used to make the bomb. Deputy District Attorney Courtland Geyer said. "Revealing anything about the manner and build of the bomb would hurt the investigation."

Nor has there been any information given that tells of Turnidge's motivation for the attack. It is however apparent that his goals and motivations where serious to him. There is also no information as to if the attack was carried out by Turnidge himself, or if there was any other person involved.

Detectives are still looking for clues in the investigation. The 'Tip Line' is still open, and there is still a reward of up to $35,000 for any important information that leads to the conviction of the person or persons that are involved in the crime. The number is 1-888-780-5678.
