Located 25 minutes from down town Louisville near Henryville, Indiana, Wooded Glen Retreat and Conference center offers a quiet place to reflect, regroup, and relax. Run by Phyllis Garmon, the retreat serves individuals, corporations, and many other groups, offering them an alternative to traditional hotels and conference centers for seminars, religious retreats, vacations, company celebrations, meetings and weddings.

Phyllis' son, Shawn Garmon, said," We are different than a lot of hotels. We offer a chance for people to get away in a serene setting, surrounded by wild life, to take the time to clear your mind and focus at the task at hand."

Wooded Glen sits on nearly 600 acres and offers 21 rooms in a lodge setting reminiscent of a Colorado ski lodge with two queen size beds in each room . For meeting space, they offer a 20,000 square foot conference center with four conference rooms, varying in size. Each conference room offers a drop down screen, wireless internet, and has AV and in focus machines available. There is also a game room with a pool table, arcade games, a golf putting machine, board games and a snack bar that is well stocked and available to guests at all times.

Wooded Glen also offers what they call challenge courses, designed to improve team building and communications abilities. One such challenge is the "group wall". It is a 12 ft wall and group members have to get over it using only each other. There is also an inside challenge called channels where everyone in the team has a channel to get a ball from point A to point B. This offers valuable skills training that can not be offered at the conference center in downtown Louisville, Kentucky.

In addition to their team building challenges, they also offer things like hay rides, picnics by the lake, bonfires, hiking, and other out door activities. The picnics by the lake include home style recipes like fried chicken, potatoes and vegetables.

"A lot of people like the atmosphere and a lot of people really like the food," Garmon said. "I think the home style recipes have become our calling card."

Everything except the challenges are included in the package price. There is a Day Meeting Package for groups using the grounds from 8 a.m to 5 p.m., which includes use of the conference rooms, game room, breakfast, lunch and the snack bar for $35 per person. The Complete Meeting Package is $95 per person and includes overnight stay, breakfast, lunch, dinner, the snack bar and use of all the facilities. Challenge courses are an additional $10 per person per hour and general sessions last from two to four hours. Garmon feels that people get their money's worth and that spending time in the serenity of Wooded Glen Retreat and Conference center is beneficial to them.

"When people show up, they look tired," he said. "And when they leave, they look revived and a lot have said it helps them reenergize and return to their company or business."
