Wooden Arts and Crafts for Kids to Create
Wood Materials Can Be Used to Make Some Arts and Crafts that Kids Can Enjoy Creating!
There are a variety of fun arts and crafts projects that are geared for kids that can be created out of wood materials and the process of creating these items can be enjoyed by people of all ages and both genders. One of the advantage of creating crafts out of wood is that wood tends to be very durable and the finished products that are made from it can last for a very long time.
Wooden Picture Frames
A photo frame is an art project which can be created out of wood people of all ages. To create this you will need some wooden craft sticks or wooden popsicle sticks, some glue, some paint and a paintbrush. Take the wooden craft sticks and glue them into a rectangle, measuring each side to fit the picture that you want to display in the frame. For example, if you want the frame to be 8-inches by 10-inches you will want to glue together enough sticks going one way to measure at least 8-inches and the other sides 10-inches in length. Glue the back perimeter of the picture onto the frame and set out it to dry for an hour. If you desire, paint the frame any color that you choose. To hang up, glue a piece of string in a small loop onto the back of the frame. Hang it on a small nail.
Wood Ornaments
Take some cookie cutters and use them to draw outlines on thin pieces of wood. Take a scroll saw and carefully cut as closely around the outline of your shape as possible. Take some sand paper and sand around the entire figure to smooth all of the edges as to avoid having splintering pieces sticking out. Take a drill and drill a small hole through each of the ornaments close to the top. Take some latex based paint and decorate the ornament with the colors that you desire. You can put a top coat of glitter glue over the top of the paint to give it a shimmering look. Put an ornament hook or a piece of looped string through the hole and hang it up as desired.
Wooden Toothpick Snowflake Ornaments
To create a wooden snowflake ornament out of toothpicks take four toothpicks and cut them in half. Paint the toothpicks white and allow them to dry. Take a white pom pom and paint it with glitter glue to create a shine effect. Glue the ends of the toothpick halves onto the center of the pom pom and allow the glue to dry. Take a piece of white glittery colored yarn and tie a small piece of it around one of the toothpicks close to where it is securely glued to the pom pom.
Wooden Scrapbook
To create a wooden scrapbook, take 2 1/4-inch thick boards of wood and cut them to the dimensions of 8 1/2-inches by 5 1/2-inches with a saw. Drill two holes into each of the boards at one end. To smooth the edges, sand the perimeters of each board until they are smooth. Put some paper under one of the boards and line it up so that it fits on the board. Use a paper hole puncher to punch two holes into each sheep of paper in the exact same spot as each other to fit with the two holes in the board. Take two pieces of twine and string it through all of the holes, then tie securely and cut the ends. Use the paper to stick pictures into and enjoy.
