Woodridge Bed & Breakfast: Pearl River, LA

Jesse Schmitt
Off the highway, down a shrouded bit of underbrush, and down the road a spell is my next destination; a great brick building with a whole lot of back-story. Our next stop brings us to Pearl River Louisiana at Woodridge Bed & Breakfast. Woodridge Bed & Breakfast was once Woodridge Academy schoolhouse and the building still maintains many of its former charms. A short drive to the French Quarter, the five guest rooms at Woodridge promise their own individual style and feel. Plenty of other amenities round out your stay at Woodridge but what about the beds? What is it about a night spent sleeping in these guest rooms could make you want to go outside and climb a tree? Let's head on inside Woodridge Bed & Breakfast and see if this is somewhere that you should sleep here now.

The rooms at Woodridge Bed & Breakfast are each named after the type of plant guests can view through the window of their room. Live Oak, Magnolia, and Dogwood, are the tree suites; Azalea and Rose are the other two suites names. Each room comes equipped with a private bath, queen sized bed, TV, DVD, Wireless internet and some rooms are fashioned with daybeds.

Truth be told many of the dressings of Woodridge Bed & Breakfast were a tad overwhelming. Innkeepers Debbi and Tim spoke fervently and at great length about their inns affiliation with the local New Orleans circuit, their allegiance with the bed & breakfast unions, and details as small as the names of their many chickens. While all that may be interesting for someone who is coming to spend a week or longer at the inn, the fact that we were just there for one night made the whole of the information a lot to handle. In addition the chachkie made for a visual spectacle one won't soon forget.

There was also the issue of Woodridge's location. As Innkeeper Debbi says, "It's 35 miles from the Woodridge door to the exit for the French Quarter." Being from a big city we know that the best time to arrive is either very early in the morning or very late in the evening. We did venture onto Bourbon Street and while the trip was speedy enough, guests need to take into account the time spent looking for parking. We stayed at Woodridge on a Friday night and we got into town just when the street signs were expiring for the evening. The parking spaces were all filled up and we had to drive a good distance away from the action of the Quarter to get a parking spot that wasn't paid-for. The gridlock we experienced on Friday night even made finding a pay-lot difficult.

Woodridge Bed & Breakfast pride themselves on their affiliation with the neighboring city of New Orleans. Innkeepers Tim and Debbi were former king and queen of their Mardi Gras float from a few years back. They have all manner of decoration adorning the walls of the stairs leading to the second floor. As well they have a picture of themselves as they ascended to the Mardi Gras King and Queen thrones.

After a restful night's sleep in the Dogwood Suite and a generous country breakfast it's time for me to be on my way. Woodridge Bed & Breakfast has accessibility to all that New Orleans has to offer combined with the rustic, laid back, country ambiance that people escape cities like New Orleans to enjoy. Woodridge also has ample grounds for your families reunion, wedding, or other gathering. Innkeepers Debbi and Tim are forthcoming with their homes influences, proud of their achievements, and eager to help visitors find their way around. If you're looking for a bed and breakfast option that's close to New Orleans without being smack in the middle of the French Quarter, Woodridge Bed & Breakfast is an option for you to consider.

A homey touch might be nice near NOLA, the big hotels can feel so anonymous
