Woody Allen Movie: Annie Hall Review
When Annie Hall was over, everybody in the room had the same remark. The credits are astounding. No one realized what a great cast is in this Woody Allen movie.
In order of appearance:
Woody Allen*
Diane Keaton*
Tony Roberts*
Carol Kane*
Paul Simon*
Shelley Duvall*
Janet Margolin*
Colleen Dewhurst*
Christopher Walken*
Jeff Goldblum
Sigourney Weaver
Beverly D'Angelo
Shelley Hack
John Glover
Truman Capote (uncredited)
Marshall McLuhan
The names with stars by them are names on the Annie Hall movie poster of this old film. These nine must have been stars at the time. So, many of the rest were probably not big names yet. It is fun to see them "back when" and to have so many stars in the same classic movie. None of us recognized Sigourney Weaver. We didn't realize she was in Annie Hall until we read the credits.
Allen was nominated for Academy Awards for directing, writing, and acting in this Woody Allen movie. He won two of the three awards and beat Star Wars for best picture. In one scene, Woody Allen accidentally sneezed as he looked at a tin of cocaine. Since it was funny, he enhanced the scene to make it funnier.
It's also amazing to see how much of this Woody Allen movie is ingrained in American consciousness. Woody Allen talks to the audience by looking into the camera. There is also a short animated scene plus scenes when the actor listens to someone talking. However, what's going on in his mind is not what is being said. One can't help but wonder if Annie Hall is where all this started.

Post a CommentExcellent article. Well - written and enjoyable to read. Woody Allen is a classic film maker and Annie Hall is one of his best. When I'm not writing AC articles, I'm also writing a comedy screenplay and WA is an influence. Do you remember "Billy Jack" ? I still love that movie and have probably seen it six or seven times. Good work.
Haven't seen Annie HAll but I've been told I must!
