Wool Scarflette Crochet Pattern

Phebe A. Durand
A couple of months ago, I was honored to be accepted into the EcoEtsy (http://ecoetsy.blogspot.com/) group. With a focus on earth-friendly packaging, it was right up my alley. It was through this group that I got to take part in my first-ever swap: a secret Valentine swap. So as I'm writing this crochet pattern, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my secret pal receives her scarflette long before she sees the pattern.

Scarflettes are great because they do the job of a scarf, without the bulk of one. Crocheted in luxurious, 100% wool in whatever gorgeous color you like, it features a scalloped edging and two pretty buttons. Overall, the look is natural and oh-so-pretty. It's a great style tucked under a coat for winter.

Best of all, this pattern is easy enough for crochet beginners. All that is used in the crochet pattern are the beginning chain and single crochet stitches worked in back loops for that unique ridged effect with a few doubles for the trim.

  • Experiment with worsted-weight wool blends for wonderful effects.
  • Vintage wood buttons look great - but the resin kind that look like wood are just as good.
  • For a longer scarflette to fit a larger neck size, increase the number of chains in row 1 as needed.

I too need clarification on row 13. Can anyone help me?

I was wondering if you might clarify the directions for row 13? It says to ch1, and then single crochet 70, but then i'm lost by the remainder of the directions starting with the parentheses....(5 dc, skip next 2 rows) 5 times down the short side of scarflette, sc in each of the next 69 sc along opposite long side of scarflette, 3 sc in next sc.

Can you clarify what is meant by these instructions?
    Thanks!

I'm new at crochet and am a bit confused by one part on these instructions:
5 dc, skip next 2 rows
I guess this is supposed to make the button hole/ shell look but I don't understand. I double chain five across on the short end, then skip two holes? Is there any way you can clarify, also with pics? The pictures you posted are very helpful but I'm still a bit confused.
    Thanks!

I'm glad you provided the photos along with instructions. The scarflette looks wonderful, I'll have to try it once I get caught up on the projects I already have bought yarn for.

I couldn't even imagine this one without that lovely photo to show the results. Thanks for including that and the instructions, perfect together!
