Word Spillage

Casey Bauer
It's 1:00 a.m.
Without a friend
It's quiet, at least for now

I like a blank page
I like how the words look on it:
So much promise.

A blank page was intimidating before
But now I just want to fill it
Spill it, over kill it

I want corny, lame,
The same cliché.

What you see in a magazine
But all me,
Free as the first days of spring

Original sin.
Sinking into originality
Sinking my teeth into the meat of inspiration,

The meat of flavor.
Cilantro, soy sauce, baby bok choy.
Choy choy, baby baby, funny baby looking for a laugh.

Laughing at everything because
It's like when you sing; it has a ring a joy.

Even if it's sometimes forced
It can cause tension to ease
Tension in muscles taut with stress.

Lined eyes, stretched stomachs
From bearing a child.
Gray-haired but covered by chemicals

Blonde in a bottle, genie in a bottle
Like a fallen pop star
Doing what is beneath her.
