MY CLOSET, MY SANITY
Our closet should be among our most organized places in the house. Nevertheless, it seems to be more of a junk pile instead of a clothing storage. The surest way to keep up with what you have is to structure. This involves a serious sit down to contemplate what you really do not wear, what is way out of style is, and what is worth keeping. This update needs to occur at least every three months. If you have countless pairs of shoes, find storage boxes because this contains all of the messiness that we women can havoc on a closet. This also goes for jeans, shirts, belts, and purses. Everything should have its place. You can always get ideas from the reality TV shows geared to cleaning up house. They have so many innovative ways for you to save money and still pull of a great look for the home. You can find out where the best discounts are in the best stores as well. The closet is indeed a vital tool in this whole project so heed my advice and get to organizing the place where clothes spend the most time.
Now that I've pointed you in the right direction - namely storage - its time to create a wardrobe that can be maintained for a long while.
a) Never be afraid to be yourself, but be mindful of whether your look suits you or not. This is one crucial error that many women tend to make. There's nothing wrong with seeking a second opinion.
b) Quality is the key. You will waste time buying gobs of cheap clothing and accessories only to find a clutter of a closet, an empty wallet, and a fashion victim! The mall is great but you are really missing out on some great boutiques that hold quite fashionable clothing. Find bargain store for the short time trends, but make an expense for the long term fashions.
c) Get your essential pieces dry cleaned only. This will ensure that the clothes are being properly cared for instead of thrown carelessly in your home washing machine. I can't count the number of times I have talked myself into cleaning my own delicate pieces only to have them shrink, lose texture, or change a totally different color. 'Dry Clean Only' is on the inside of the clothing tag for a good reason.
d) Keep in mind that as time changes, sizes may change. I can count numerous women who have clothing sitting in their closet waiting on their owners to either lose the pounds or gain some additional weight. Be realistic and true to reality. If you really don't have the slightest chance of wearing outfit, do yourself a favor and give the item a good home. Donate it to charity.
e) Mold your styledrobe by each experience in your life - work, school, church, miscellaneous functions, and parties. This will make it easier to choose your style.
f) Solid colors are a good way to start. Prints are more complex because looks change. Keep the basic colors to balance out any other trends.
g) Be practical. Practicality will keep you from buying some hideous monstrosity in three different colors only to see it on the 'worst dressed list' three months later. Trends are ok, but it is the classic look that wins every time.
Does fashion tend to repeat itself? Sure it does. However, that can happen six months, two years or as much as ten years down the line. Choosing what will go and what will stay in your wardrobe is most definitely a challenge that you must make with the utmost care.
