Words for a Friend - II

Words for a Friend - II

Friday, April
sixteenth, a day
like any other
spring day
on these western
shores - clear, warm,
fifty-five at eleven.

A day
unlike
any for the
absence
of one.

Standing
at the kitchen table,
packing
smokes
one
at a time, thinking
of what might
be about to be -
what we worked
these seven months
for; me fighting
the establishment
that stole my bone, you
quietly offering
friendship, support,
a smile and a laugh
when I had none
to give.

The joy
of the day? Non-
existent.
It saddens me to know
you might never know
what might be; that I
might get my teeth
today. That Bones
could not have made
it this far
with
out
your support
my friend
