They lurk in the shadows;
Hidden by anonymity;
Safe and sound;
From behind an avatar;
And a false name;
They attack without mercy;
Showing no remorse;
Taking one's beliefs;
And making them obscene;
They enter upon the page;
With their jealousy;
And type in words to hurt;
To tear down their attended target;
While they laugh gleefully;
With a false sense of pride;
As they down rate again and again;
The words of an artist's soul;
They are shameless and vulgar;
And there is no stopping them;
But I do not listen to them;
And I delete their filth;
Off of my art;
Both written and painted;
And I block their fake names;
To send a them a message;
That rings out loud and clear
Hidden by anonymity;
Safe and sound;
From behind an avatar;
And a false name;
They attack without mercy;
Showing no remorse;
Taking one's beliefs;
And making them obscene;
They enter upon the page;
With their jealousy;
And type in words to hurt;
To tear down their attended target;
While they laugh gleefully;
With a false sense of pride;
As they down rate again and again;
The words of an artist's soul;
They are shameless and vulgar;
And there is no stopping them;
But I do not listen to them;
And I delete their filth;
Off of my art;
Both written and painted;

This poem is about rude, anonymous posters who attack other people's work. While I believe in free speech, I think that there are some people who take it to the extreme at the expense of others. These people do not care who they hurt. To my poet and artist friends who are victims of this nonsense, please don't take these people seriously, and just block and delete them...they are not worth bothering with.

Sticks and Stones - a Poetic Turn on Words that BurnThese rhymed lines consider the power of words to charm or harm. Surely, sticks and stones may harm us, but what about sharp or hard words?
Explaining Bad Words to Your ChildrenMy feelings are that words are words. Why is a tree called a tree? Because a person gave it that name. So why is a middle finger or a curse word bad? Post a CommentDon't let anything bother you..........sometimes telling the truth also creates enemies and they try their best to hurt you........that doesn't mean you stop telling the truth, does it ? ............that is what has happened to me on the forum lately when I also asked "WHY?"
You artfully told the off ;-) Great job! I've been in the trenches and have grown a thick skin. The hate may make me stir but it can't move me. Very nice post, Lisa.
Good job Lisa.
I am so sorry you are bothered by such people. You did a great job of describing them!
Great job on this Lisa. There is a famous African proverb that says. "around every flower there are bees." With that being said you are a flower and your work shines even when the bees try to destroy it. Keep on writing. :-)
excellent poem!!!
Wonderful job and I agree, sis!!!!
Great!!! I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. Did you see my piece about comment spam?
Very nice poem. Good advice.
Kim is right - this happens to ALL of us at some point or another - especially those of us who are passionate about making a difference in the world by using the gifts we have been given. Someone somewhere is always out there trying to dim the light of inspiration that shines within us, but we should never give them this kind of power. I hope that your poem will reach as many writers as possible who have encountered such negativity, so that they will know they are not alone and that such ignorance does not take away from the quality of their work. Excellent poem. I agree with Charlie K; 10 stars!!!
