Words of Wisdom: Virtue of Patience

Christina Sponias
Almost no one has the patience to wait for anything or to think about the human problems and try to understand them. However, patience is indispensable in our life.

Patience can only be relief for the problems that cannot be solved or that need time and it is a natural necessity that has also a very important philosophical meaning.

Without time, we cannot prepare and create anything; nothing can be developed or properly studied, nothing can grow and nothing can happen. Time is part of our life and it is necessary for everything. Therefore, we must have the patience to wait until all the necessary aspects of reality get developed and arrive up to the point we were expecting.

If we try to skip several steps because we want to see the results of our efforts quickly, we will not prepare anything in a solid and consistent manner; instead, our results will be fragile and ephemeral that will last only for a very limited period of time and whose quality will be quite inferior.

Good work is done with patience and with several verifications, until it comes to the right point.

A flower cannot grow earlier than it is supposed to, an animal cannot protect itself or have the velocity and the power of an adult from the first days of its life. Similarly, a human being cannot learn how to talk or do several things with hands before the mind and body are ready for these actions. This is the natural process of life. If we desire balance and happiness we have to respect it, otherwise we will only cause distortions and damage with our impatience.

Patience and tolerance towards human mistakes are indispensable too, if we wish to be sensitive and sensible. Nobody is perfect and nobody knows everything.

If we keep this statement in mind all the time, we will always be wise. Instead of arguing and complaining about other people's behaviour and mistakes, we'll try to understand their real problems and find ways to help them.

How many times have we almost lost hope, when finally something unexpected happened to change our life's course, saving us from despair? We have many such examples in the history of mankind.

We have also many examples of impatience, intolerance and precipitation, such as suicides and other drastic actions that cannot be corrected later.

So, be careful, be wise and wait.

When the necessary time passes, everything will change and acquire the shape you desire. Give your credibility to the necessary period of time for everything and believe in a better result in the future, when people will be mature enough and all your efforts will finally approach the strong structure of life that you require.
