Wordsleuth's Top 25 College Football Rankings Week 7. After the seventh weekend of college football action there has been another major shakeup in the rankings. In this week's Top 25 College Football Rankings the LSU Fighting Tigers lost their spot as the number 1 team in the country after their loss to Kentucky and Ohio State and South Florida move into the Top 2 spots in the rankings. The Top 25 College Football Rankings for Week 7 are:

1. Ohio State

Ohio State is the number 1 team in the country this week by default. They are one of the only big name schools left undefeated. They will not finish the year undefeated and they will not finish the year #1.

2. South Florida

South Florida wasn't even in existence 12 years ago and now they are the number 2 team in the country. This is one of the best stories in college football in a long time. Imagine if they made the national championship game. Rutgers will be a very tough test this week.

3. Boston College

Boston College just isn't that good. They play in the ACC and have played very inferior opponents so far this season. They do boast the Heisman frontrunner in Matt Ryan, but they will not end the season in the national title hunt.

4. Oklahoma

Oklahoma is one of the best 1-loss teams in the country. That one loss to Colorado should have them more focused, and if two of these teams above them lose, they have a great shot at playing for a championship. Oklahoma is the real deal.

5. LSU

LSU is still the number one team in the country, but their ranking has to take a hit this week as they lost to Kentucky. LSU should finish the rest of the year undefeated and they will move right back into the top spot with a few losses ahead of them.

6. South Carolina

Head Ball Coach has really turned the South Carolina program around. Many people had them on an upset watch last weekend, but Spurrier had them ready to play. This team is for real and will be in the hunt for an SEC championship.

7. Oregon

Oregon is one of the best teams in the country. The top spots should belong to Oklahoma, LSU and Oregon, but heart-crushing losses have those three teams down a few spots. Oregon's only loss came in the last seconds because of a fumble out of the endzone. You haven't heard the last of the Ducks.

8. Kentucky

I think I may have underestimated Kentucky. Andre Woodson really has some great leadership ability and they never gave up, even when they went down pretty big to the Tigers. Kentucky definetly earns their Top 10 spot this week.

9. West Virginia

West Virginia has quietly bounced back from its loss to South Florida. West Virginia is #9 this week and that loss to South Florida looks a lot easier to swallow right now than it did a few weeks ago.

10. California

This weekend showed me one of the dumbest plays I have ever seen in college football. Cal could have easily tied the game with a short field goal, but the quarterback decided to try and run for the endzone from about the 12-yard line. He was taken down and the clock ran out. Cal would be #1 if not for him.

11. Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech's only loss is still the one to LSU. They might not be winning games pretty, butt hey certainly are winning. VT dismantled Duke last weekend, but they have some much bigger games coming up.

12. Arizona State

Arizona State certainly has the offense to get them to the Rose Bowl, but do they have the defense. There are still some big games left on the Sun Devils schedule, but if they keep winning, they might be in Pasadena in January.

13. USC

I don't know if I have ever seen a #1 team fall fro grace so far and so fast. That upset by Stanford has USC all but out of the national title picture. USC might be a one-loss team, but they should have at least two by the end of the season. They still have Oregon, Arizona State and other tough teams on the schedule.

14. Kansas

Yes, the Kansas Jayhawks are a Top 15 team. This team is still undefeated and see their highest rankings that I have ever seen, bnut they have a lot of work to do if they want to finish the year in the Top 25. Some big matchups are on the horizon.

15. Florida

Florida's national title hopes are juts about over as they suffered two straight losses. Florida was off last weekend and they hopefully, for them, used the time to regroup. They need to win the remainder of their games for a good shot at the SEC Championship.

16. Missouri

Missouri did lose the big showdown with Oklahoma, but many expected that. Missouri did put up a good fight and they looked like a pretty decent football team. Their Big 12 title hopes took a hit, but this is a Top 20 ballclub.

17. Hawaii

I still don't know how Hawaii came back on San Jose State last week, but the bottom line is that they won and kept their BCS dreams alive. If they finish in the Top 12 they get an automatic BCS berth and if they finish in the Top 16 but have a BCS conference champion finish below them they get a BCS bid.

18. Auburn

Auburn is a very two-faced team. They can look awful one week and then great the next. Right now is a stretch where they look pretty good and they earn themselves the number 18 spot in the country.

19. Texas

Texas won again, but they are playing the creampuff part of their conference. This weekend they should rack up another win since they are playing the Baylor Bears, but they will need some losses ahead of them to move up the poll.

20. Tennessee

Tennessee gained its invite back to the Top 25 with their dismantling of Georgia and they move up this week because of the losses of some of the teams ahead of them, including Illinois and Cincinnati.

21. Georgia

Georgia just barely hung on in the Top 25 after last week, but the losses of some of the teams ahead of them have the Bulldogs a little more securely in the rankings. The Bulldogs need to pull of some big wins fast if they want a shot at an SEC division title.

22. Cincinnati

Cincinnati lost to Louisville last weekend. A perfect season for Cincy was ruined by one of their rivals, but they still stay in the Top 25 with a pretty decent 7-1 record. Cincinnati can't afford another loss or this may be their last week in the rankings.

23. Michigan

Michigan finds their way back into the Top 25 after 5 straight nice wins. Last weekend they beat a decent Purdue team. Michigan football should be back on track and probably won't lose until a showdown with Ohio State in a few weeks.

24. Virginia

Virginia quietly has played some very good football since they lost at Wyoming to open the season. On that note, who scheduled that game? Going to Wyoming really took its toll on the Cavs and without that game they would be much higher in the rankings.

25. Texas Tech

The Red Raiders make their way into the Top 25 after a win over their big rival Texas A&M. The Red Raiders offense is now playing like we would expect them, but their defense needs to improve if they are going to win some big games in the Big 12. Don't expect them to stick in the Top 25 for too long.

Man, everyone's rankings are getting shot to heck. This was a real good looking list before this weekend...now South Carolina and South Florida are the ones hurting! This is nuts.

Good rankings, though, even if they've been turned upside down again :)
