This organization was created in 1975 functioning as the Ohio Public Interest Campaign which was essentially a coalition of various community organizations including some churches, after school programs etc. At that time the organization was aimed at passing legistation that would protect employees and their communities from the damage caused by the loss of jobs from the closing of factories and steel mills in the area. Prior to assuming its main focus on environmental health issues, Ohio Citizen Action had involvements in a wide range of community concerns. They dealt with tax concerns, electrical power concerns, community investments, the price of natural gas, nuclear power plant dangers, health insurance, and the rights of victims etc. Starting in 1994, Ohio Citizen Action has been further pursuing political corruption throughout the state of Ohio, facilitated by their many members. They work heavily on progressive campaigns that provide sponsorship to Ohio's political candidates who support environmental turn-around in Ohio . Thus far, Citizen Action has greatly helped the state of Ohio fight off pollution, destruction of forests, wild-life, and natural habitats, as well as forced additional pollution and safety regulations for industries.

Citizen's main focus since the 1980's is environmental reform in the state of Ohio. They carry a great concern for environmental health issues. They locate oridnances of local toxic chemicals, landfills and other hazardous waste sites and work towards making them cleaner and safer. They also help to protect the state's ground water from waste contamination. They also take a stand against the overuse of pesticides and herbicides that contribute to ground water contamination.

Ohio Citizen Action was featured in the publication "The 100 Best Non-Profits to Work For" (Leslie Hamilton, Robert Tragert, 2nd Edition, August 2000)

Ralph Nader quoted about Ohio Citizen Action, "Congratulations for your stamina and heel-digging presence, in opposition to the many abuses of corporate power directed against workers, consumers, good public officials and the environment. Keep building and motivating."

Senator John Glenn, quoted, "With organizations like Citizen Action around, who says there's no effective grass roots work being done in politics anymore?"

If you are interested in working for a company that works for the good of your community and your state, you might want to look into a non-profit organization like Ohio Citizen Action. You will go to work feeling good about what you are accomplishing and you can go to bed rest assured that the following day will be one of great cause and effectiveness, as well as being a unique learning experience.

Ohio Citizen action has 80,00 members and counting! They have taken on opposition to some of the biggest bullying polluting toxic companies in the world, and they have won!
