When you are ready to go to your local designated police station to apply for your Identification Number for Foreigners you should expect the process to take around an hour. When you arrive at the designated police station you will need to have either a notarized copy of your passport or your actual passport, a copy of your work permit and the required fee for the Identification Number for Foreigners application.
After you have presented the above required documents at the designated police station you will need to have a work book endorsed by the city economic department. This is the last thing that you will have to do in order to be able to officially being working in Croatia. Note that you can only complete this process at your designated police station between the hours of 8:30 am and 12:00 pm.
There are some additional documents you will need to submit. You will need to have proof from your employer that they want to employ you and the justifications for that, a work book prepared by the employer, the application form, a copy of your foreigner ID certificate, a copy of your work permit and a copy of your passport that contains you extended residency permit. After you have the work book you are free to take up regular employment legally.
You can plan on the entire process starting with submitting an application for an employment or business visa to being officially able to take up legal employment to be around 14 weeks. Of course, delays can occur at any time. And if you have to appeal a decision then there will be an additional wait.
When are able to take up employment that means that you can legally enter an employment contract with an employer. You will also need to apply for a tax card. To do this you will need a copy of your work permit, your foreigner ID number and your application request for a tax card.
