Work-From-Home Career Options for MBA Moms

You've worked hard to establish yourself as a dedicated employee. You are flexible in meeting deadlines, doing whatever it takes to get the job done. You can handle any demanding situation and are especially strong at handling tough customers.

If you're an MBA mom, this probably sounds like you both before and after kids. You probably have found that the same dedication that it took to be a great employee also makes you a great mom. Unfortunately, what you probably also found was that your employer valued your flexibility in getting the job done, but wasn't willing to offer the same flexibility in being an MBA mom.

You'd love to work-from-home, but don't know where to get started. You've done a lot of research (of course - you're an MBA mom!), but most of the work-from-home gigs that you've seen look like scams. Those work-from-home jobs that aren't scams don't sound necessarily appealing to you as an MBA mom. Let's face it: you didn't get your MBA to answer telephones or type someone's notes.

There are some creative work-from-home options for MBA moms to consider. Of course, one of these work-from-home MBA mom career options is starting your business. As an MBA mom, you may have considered this to be too time consuming (at least when your children are young).

A great (and flexible) work-from-home career option for MBA moms is becoming a freelance writer. Before you say "I haven't taken an English class since high school," think about all of the great reports and analysis that you completed during your MBA coursework and job experience. You are an expert in something, whether it's in a given industry (like consumer products or transportation) or career (i.e. financial analysis or manufacturing).

Take this knowledge and make it into something bigger. Look through the current Writer's Market handbook and see which trade magazines are looking for articles in your area of expertise. Think of some interesting articles to write and get in touch with editors via targeted query letters. You'd be surprised to see how many trade magazines are looking for someone with your skill set. You can get started with web-based publishing sites like Associated Content to begin your writing career.

Another great resource for work-from-home jobs for MBA moms is Tory Johnson's Women for Hire website. Tory is the workforce contributor for Good Morning America and has done tons of research to find legitimate, professional work-from-home roles for MBA moms.

With a little research (which shouldn't be hard for MBA moms), you can be maintain a flexible career with motherhood.
