Making an Independent film can be tricky when it comes to the full extent of the cost for your project. Many people overlook extraneous expenses. When that happens you have to know where to get the money. Here are some tips for how to work with different companies to fund parts of your film.

If you are making an independent film for a non-profit reason many local companies will be very generous to you. I have found that they open up their wallets to fund significantly more when they believe in the cause that you are pursuing. Which can be an enormous relief to anyone that is making an independent film. So be sure to pursue that if you are making a not-for-profit film.

Even if you are making a for-profit independent film you can still get your local businesses to help fund your project. Many of them will donate food if you mention them in your title credits. The same applies to donations of other supplies like clothing and props. In fact some local companies will offer some really cool props that can really make your independent film stand out from the rest. Definitely check around on that. That resource is very valuable.

For example, here in Albuquerque, NM a film was shot that represented a memorial to the life of a local hero. His death was a huge loss to everyone. Those of us that loved him wanted to make an independent film that would help raise money to continue his work with local children. The project offered complete support form the locals here in New Mexico and Arizona. Filming locations where allowed for the film that are significant landmarks to route 66. It still stands as the best tribute film made by any independent filmmaker. It is something that I am proud to have been a part of.

If you have a goal to make an independent film then make sure and ask around. Your local community and business resource group can help you fund everything and even add that special inclusion that makes it the success that you are striving to achieve.
