Working from Home with a Newborn: Find the Perfect Balance

Jennifer Foote
Are you interested in working from home, but you are also the parent of a newborn? If you are, you may be wondering exactly how you can go about getting all of your work done. Yes, it can sometimes be difficult to be a work-at-home mom and a stay-at-home mom at the same time, but it is more than possible. For more information on how you can successfully work from home while still caring for your newborn, you will want to read on.

When it comes to working from home with a newborn, one of the best ways to be successful is to carefully choose what you do for a living. As you likely already know, newborns don't always have set schedules. Yes, many spend most of the day sleeping, but what time they sleep at and for how long isn't always guaranteed. That is why many work-at-home parents of newborns should try and get jobs that are either flexible with their scheduling or jobs that do not require communication with customers over-the-phone, since you cannot necessarily guarantee that your home will be quiet at all times.

In addition to carefully choosing which work-at-home job you accept, if your application is approved, you may also want to think about starting your own home based business. When it comes to running a home based business, you will find that you have a number of different options. For instance, you could pick a job that benefits both you and your child, like running your own in-home daycare center. You can also choose to start a business based on the amount of money you have access to. For instance, starting your own daycare business may be a little bit costly, as you need to childproof your home and such, but starting your own freelance writing business would be more affordable, as there are less startup costs.

If you are able to land a work at home job or start your own home based business, you may want to think about experimenting with your hours, if your job allows you to do so. For instance, there are some parents who choose to do most of their work at night, after their partner has arrived home or after their child is gone to sleep. There are also many work-at-home parents of newborns who do most of their work during naptimes. It may take a little bit of trial and error, but after some time, you should be able to find a way to make money from home, but properly care for your newborn at the same time.

When you have a baby in the house, it's hard to get anything done. Except when s/he is sleeping. :-) Good read!
