Working at Home: Setting Up Your Work Space and Your Schedule

Just because you are working at home doesn't mean that you will not follow some rules. If you really want succeed in your home business, there are some things that you must first take care of. First, you will need an office space where you will work. If you do not have a big house and you cannot spare a room, which you can turn into an office, you should at least find a quite place in the house where you can set up a working table. Make sure that the rest of the family knows that that certain part of the house is your office so that they will not bother you once you set on your table.

Make sure that nobody touches the things on your table so that you will not have a hard time finding your things. If you have small kids in the house that would rummage through things even if you already told them not, you might want to invest in a small filing cabinet with a lock Do not just leave your things on your table if you do not want to end up losing some important communications.

Aside from the office table that you could set up in the corner in your home, you will need a telephone line, which you will devote solely for your home business. Do not use the house phone as you business phone if you do not want to your kid to start answering your business calls. Another disadvantage of using the house phone for your business transactions is that some members of the family might want to use the phone when you are expecting a call from the client. If you have a teenager in the house who would not get off the phone even if you rant and rave about putting the phone down, then you are in great trouble so get your own phone and let everybody know in the house that your phone is only for business purposes and no body is allowed to use the business phone unless it is an emergency.

Now, when it comes to your working hours, you should let your family know of your work schedule. Call all the members of the family and explain to them that even though you are just in the house, there are times of the day when you will be working and will not be avail to them. Give them a copy of your work schedule and ensure their cooperation. Note that when you are working at home, the cooperation of the entire family is very important.
