The short answer is no. The long answer is, most times it is. Many people search the internet every day looking for a way to make quick money and work at home. Go to any job search engine like Monster or Career Builder and you will find a plethora of "WORK FROM HOME MAKE $1000 PER WEEK" ads listed throughout their sites. More than half of these are multi level marketing deals where you need to pay for a packet, shipping on a free training CD, or need purchase some type of internet service or certification before you can start making money.
Any legitimate work from home opportunity will never ask you for money. Would you pay someone to get you an interview? Same deal, you should never pay for a job opportunity, unless it is a home based business. Starting a business and working from home are two different animals.
What type of work from home opportunities are out there? There are hundreds of sites that will pay you to read emails, view advertisements, or participate in surveys. You could be a virtual administrator, customer service representative or telemarketer. If you want to be on the phone and have a great imagination, you could even be a phone actor.
First, decide on the type of job you want and how much you'd like to make. Next, figure out when you can work and how much time you can dedicate to the position. Then you have to do your homework and find the legitimate ones. It's not always easy, but here are a few tips.
-
- Search for NO FEE work from home opportunities. You can add the words "no fee" to your web search for work at home, data entry, customer service and other ideal situations that fit your personality and life style. This will not guarantee you a legitimate work from home job, but it will help weed out the scams and MLM home based businesses looking for a sucker or two.
-
- Try the words Telecommute instead of Work from home. Many businesses are allowing their employees to work from home with the ever-changing prices in gas, limited office space, and urban commuting constraints. (Your current employer might allow you to work from home a couple of days a week depending on your job requirements.)
-
- Word of mouth…or blog. With the numerous work at home scams, many people are taking matters into their own hands and offering legitimate opportunities on their own websites and blogs. Don't be afraid to contact someone who claims to be working at home and making money. If they're happy and working with a legitimate company, they will be happy to respond.
-
- Do your research. Legitimizing the company you find is always a good idea. Take a look at their website, does it look normal? Does it ask for any money? Are they listed with the Better Business Bureau? (Not all companies are, but it doesn't hurt to check.) Just because they have testimonials doesn't mean they are real work at home opportunities.
-
Avoid any work from home opportunity the offer large amounts of money, free trial kits, no experience needed, commission only, and affiliate programs. Many of these are home based businesses and multi level marketing. Don't be fooled. Working from home requires time, effort and commitment but if you are careful and do your research, you can find many jobs out there to supplement your income.
