Working Playlist: 10 Songs to Motivate You to Work

Tammy Lee Morris
Need motivation to work at your job or around the house? We all have days when the funds are low and we have to push ourselves to keep working a job that we either love or hate in order to make ends meet, or we're trying to keep going with the endless chores around the house. How about listening to a few of these songs about working to help get you motivated? Here's a great work playlist with 10 songs to help keep you on track and your nose to the grindstone.

"Aint No Rest for the Wicked" by Cage the Elephant
This is my favorite work motivation song. I sing along with it and even sing it when it's not playing. It's a catchy tune and with lines like "There aint no rest for the wicked, money don't grow on trees, I got bills to pay, I got mouths to feed, aint nothing in this world for free. . .I can't slow down, I can't hold back, although I wish I could. . ." this song is a must on your work playlist.

"Nothin' but a Good Time" by Poison
This is a great song that will get you going. We all work our butts off hoping that we'll get a break to have some fun, and this song says it best. Best lines: "Not a dime, I can't pay my rent, I can barely make it through the week; Saturday night I'd like to make my girl but right now I gotta make ends meet; I'm always workin' slavin' every day, gotta get a break from the same old same old. . ."

"Everybody's Working for the Weekend" by Loverboy
Despite the corny 80s video, this song from Loverboy is a fun one and says what so many of us work for: Some time off. . .and the weekend. Sure, the lyrics are more about some romance over the weekend, but the title and chorus are great for work motivation. Best lines: "Everybody's working for the weekend; Everybody wants a little romance; Everybody's goin' off the deep end; Everybody needs a second chance, oh."

"Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd
Not all great "working" songs have to be fast. It may not be specifically about working, but "Simple Man" has some great life advice that relates. Live simply and do the best you can. This song has some great lyrics that are. . .well. . .simple yet profound. They don't just relate to working but life in general. Best lines: "Oh take your time and don't live too fast, troubles will come and they will pass. . .Boy don't you worry you'll find yourself; follow your heart and nothing else. . ."

"She Works Hard for the Money" by Donna Summer
Donna Summer has a great anthem for the hard-working woman who is doing all she can for her family. As a single mom myself, I so understand. We all work hard and want others to appreciate all that we do. Best lines: "It's a sacrifice working day to day, For little money, just tips for pay, But it's worth it all, Just to hear them say that they care."

"A Hard Days Night" by The Beatles
Don't we all wish we had someone to look forward to coming home to after we've worked hard? Best lines: ". . .but when I get home to you and find the things that you do will make me feel alright. . ."

"Working Man" by Rush
When you are working, sometimes it feels as though that is all you do--work, work and more work. It's easy to get so busy trying to make ends meet that your life rushes past. Best line: "Got no time for livin', I'm workin' all the time" describes the way a lot of us feel about our jobs and the work we do, but Rush's "Working Man" says it for us.

"9 to 5" by Dolly Parton
Who can resist this catchy 80s tune about working hard and getting by the best you can? Yep, it's easy to feel like the boss is out to get you when you're trying your best to do a good job. You just have to sing along with this one--you gotta. Really. Best lines: The whole darn song has the best lines. Read them HERE.

"Happy Working Song" from Disney's "Enchanted"
Okay, so this might not be your expected--or favorite--working song, but it's fun and silly and it deserves a spot on a work playlist. This one might also help you get motivated to clean your house--maybe--if you don't bash your head against the wall. Best lines: You could do a lot when you got, Such a happy little tune to hum, While you're sponging up the soapy scum, We adore each filthy chore. . ."

"Paradise City" by Guns N' Roses
And finally, this song not only gets me going when I need to be doing actual work (even though it doesn't have much to do with working), but it will also make me drive like a bat out of Hell (not a good thing). This is my favorite GNR song and it's a requirement for my working playlist. Best lines: "Rags to riches or so they say, You got to - keep pushing for the fortune and fame you know, It's all a gamble when it's just a game. . ."
