Working Too Much? Three Tips for Spending Quality Time with Your Children

If you have a hard time juggling work and family, join the majority of parents in the United States. Although we can't spend hours and hours of time dedicated to our children, we are able to make them feel special and loved, just the same. Make sure you are highlighting the little moments in life, keep your promises and always join your child for a meal and conversation. There are little ways to show your children, that they are top priority even if you work too much.

Little moments can turn a stressful day away into a great evening at home. Think of jokes to tell out of the blue and laugh about everything you find funny, being the fun parent is always a plus. Don't take everything so serious, leave that at work and have fun at home. Pay attention to the little signs your child gives you, if they need attention, had a hard day at school or don't feel well, you will notice before they tell you (this earns you big parenting points). Decide wether you like dancing or singing better and keep music as a great bridge between you and your children. Dance with them in the grocery store or sing to one of their favorite songs, while driving them to school.

Parents should always keep promises, but if you work too much, this should be a huge priority. Make sure you are always planning and staying up to day with your children's activities and events, and don't miss them. Write everything down, if you are so busy you start to forget (happens to the best of us). Make a calendar for home and a small one for work, then sync them with the calendar in your personal email, so you get emailed when your child has an event or you made a promise you need to keep.

Make it a good practice to eat a daily meal with your children. Eating and conversation is always a special time with parents, for a child. How many of us remember Sunday dinners or Friday night ice-cream? Cook with your children, even a baby will love being in the kitchen while you cook. Sunday brunch is a wonderful feeling to a child that misses their mom or dad during the week, so make a practice of exaggerating the event.

Having time to work and parent is a huge stress to adults these days, these tips should lighten the load of stress you carry with you daily. Stay positive and laugh with your children, stay on schedule and share a moment eating with them, they will thank you for it. Children love the time their parents spend with them, more than the money they spend on them, so have fun giving them what they desire most.
