Researchers have just proven why women need that cup of strong coffee to make it through the day.

Bristol University, United Kingdom, psychologists study, researchers have discovered that cup of caffeinated coffee is a must for the working woman. It aides in elevating performance levels in high pressure environments.

Unfortunately, for the men this does not hold true. In all actuality, male participants who had consumed several cups of strong coffee had decreased confidence and took longer time to finish tasks.

Researchers state that this evidence advocates that the main effects on the sexes is in the way men and women handle stress.

Estimates have shown that 100 million Americans consume around 350 cups of coffee a day and those in the United Kingdom consume 70 million cups each day.

There have been health benefits possibly associated to coffee which include guards against diabetes, Alzheimer's Disease, gout and liver damage.

Coffee and its caffeine is regarded as a stimulant that can counter act fatigue and drowsiness.

Researchers had wished to investigate what coffee does to the body when it is already under stress, particularly with large amounts being consumed in high-pressure meetings.

Sixty-four men and women had participated in the study. The participants were same sex paired. Each pair had received a scope of tasks to complete. These tasks had included carrying out negotiations, memory tasks and completing puzzles.

To increase their stress levels more, the participants had been informed they would be required to give a public presentation related to their tasks.

Researchers than had given the pairs either caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee and had monitored them for the whole experiment.

In men, researchers had discovered, their ability to perform under stress was greatly impaired for those who had the caffeinated coffee.

In an example it had taken them twenty seconds longer to complete puzzles in comparison to those on decaffeinated coffee.

Women however, complete the tasks one hundred seconds quicker if they had caffeinated coffee.

Researchers believe the key to the effects of coffee are dependent upon the way men and women react differently to stress.

Men are apt to display the fight or flight behavior. Women on the other hand, are more apt to work together to solve a problem they face. Psychologists refer to it as tend and befriend.

In report on their evidence researchers note unlimited coffee at high level meetings may not be a good idea, particularly for men. The report indicates it is due to the fact that men just may intentionally sabotage their partnerships which are formed to solve stressful issues.

The top drinking professions include nurses, physicians, teachers and hotel workers.

What brands are preferred the top four are: Nescafe, Dunkin Doughnuts, Starbucks and Folgers. Sources:
