World Aids Day

Stop AIDS Keep the Promise

jayanti raman
One of the most epidemic and very fast spreading diseases is Aids world wide. The 1st of December, World AIDS Day, is the day when individuals and organisations from around the world come together to bring attention to the global AIDS epidemic 2008 which marks the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day. Whilst we have come a long ways since 1988, there is still much more to be done.

Bhubaneswar Chapter World Aids day

On 1st December 2008 Bhubaneswar chapter of World Aids day celebrated with school children, young boys and girls at Station square, by distributing Aids awareness leaflets, giving aids badges (red ribbon) and spreading message. They were also contacting each passerby's by giving "An Appeal Form" sponsored by 93.5 8 FM .

The message is as follows" The Aids virus is not contacted through Hugging, Kissing, Touching, Sharing toilets sheets, drinking or eating from the same utensils as used by an infected person. "

"Neither is it spread by working , socializing nor by living with a HIV infected person"

"Repeated sexual contact without proper precautions with an infected person, using an infected syringe, exposer to infected blood or sexual fluid are ways through which this disease can be transmitted,"

"Donating blood does not run risk of disease contraction since needles used for such purposes are always sterile and the aids virus doesn't survive outside the human body beyond a short duration"

"Even dried blood does not risk of spreading HIV virus, for this reason mosquitos are incapable of transmitting HIV as the virus cannot replicate itself in the intestine of insects."

World Aids day-top in Google
"The General Assembly, in 1988, stated its deep concern about the pandemic proportions of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Noting that the World Health Organization (WHO) had declared 1 December 1988 World AIDS Day, the Assembly stressed the importance of observing that occasion (resolution 43/15). Today, some 40 million people are living with HIV/AIDS."

Theme of World Aids Day
The world aids day theme is accountability and the slogan is Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise.
The theme of accountability was developed by the World AIDS Campaign support team based on their ongoing work around World AIDS Day, and based on the outcomes of the London HIV and AIDS Campaigning and Advocacy meeting in February 2005. A number of lessons have been learnt from previous work on World AIDS Day, and far more energy is being invested early in the year to make World AIDS Day 2006 a success. The most significant aspect of this World AIDS Day is the degree to which it has been based around the inputs of a wide range of civil society partners.

During World AIDS Day 2006, we hope to achieve the following objectives:
• Enhanced accountability from political leaders on their promises on AIDS.

• Supporting a broad movement of civil society organisations campaigning to develop their sense of joint identity and common purpose.

• Generating a greater public awareness of, and engagement with, the problem of AIDS worldwide

World Aids day- South Africa
South Africa has been reeling under HIV/Aids for more than a decade. More than 5.5 million people are infected by HIV/AIDS which is 16% of total world wide. More than 1.5 million children are getting orphans very year.

Similarly the tentacles of HIV are fast spreading, with its sinister view and every year more and more people are infecting. One thing we all should promise to our selves, have sexual relationship with one partner, be faithful to your spouse. That is the promise you should take on world aids day.
