World Destruction: Sekai Bokumetsu No Rokunin - Sneek Peek (Anime)

Matt Remley
It's about that time of the year again, and guess what that means? It means there will be a host of new anime's popping up of every genre and style. Today, I'd like to take a look at one from the Adventure/Fantasy category, and the interesting thing about this anime is that it is based off of a video game of the same name, so perhaps you may have heard of World Destruction: Sekai Bokumetsu no Rokunin before, if you know of the game.

For those of you that aren't blessed enough to know this, I'll explain the basic storyline elements real fast. Basically in the beginning of the series you learn of a group called the World Destruction Committee, and the group trying to stop them, called the World Salvation Committee. In this world, there is a race that rules over Humans, called Beastman, which range from humans with animal features to wild animal's with only human shapes.

So far, the fantasy elements should remind you of Final Fantasy, and thats alright, because basically thats what I thought as well. Most of the story revolves around a young man named Kyrie Ernest, who happens to get involved with a female named Morte from the World Destruction Committee. When they meet, Kyrie is pretending to be a beastman at a restaurant so he can make money, when the World Salvation Committee runs it Morte takes Kyrie hostage, and the fake animal ears Kyrie wore fell off.

Of course neither the people of the restaurant or the World Salvation Committee were happy about having a human and a criminal around, so Morte and Kyrie had to flee from that town. Upon fleeing and entering the woods, the two chit-chat over the situation, and are then greeted by a young girl traveling through the woods. This young girl claims to be searching for her missing younger brother, who later turns out to be a sacrifice for the local cat god for the good of the village.

In an odd turn of events, the village elders also have a little meeting Morte and Kyrie and invite them to stay at the village for the night, although the elders words of kindness turn out to be trickery. With plans to instead sacrifice them rather then the missing boy, the villagers put tranquilizers in Morte and Kyrie's dinner. Morte then gives her food to Kyrie, who of course eats the food and falls asleep, but by that time Morte had already left the village as she wishes not to involve others in her quest to destroy the world.

After a long walk, Morte meets with the little girl again, who warns that Kyrie has been captured and is about to be sacrificed. Kyrie, who is still sleeping at the time, is tied up and carried away to a large pit which a giant sand worm calls home. Through some bravery, Morte saves Kyrie with the help of the missing little boy and a bounty hunter named Toppy he had hired to help him and his sister. The group actually defeat the cat god by throwing him into the pit to be eaten, not only him but a few members of the World Salvation Committee are eaten as well.

At the end of the episode, Toppy, who had helped Morte and Kyrie escape, ends up becoming a part of the World Destruction Committee himself. So there you have it, a brief review of the first episode, I'll leave it up to you to check out the rest of the episodes, which contain more adventures for the trio. Oh, and if your wondering about Kyrie's hidden power to control the Destruction Globe that Morte carries around hoping to one day be able to destroy the world with.

Thing is, Kyrie just doesn't know of his hidden powers at this point, and begins to develop an interest in Morte, who seems to give him the cold shoulder most of the time. I have to give this anime two thumbs up, although it may be boring for some, this anime is based on a terrific role playing game created by Sega. I only hope this will able Sega to making a come back in the US video game industry, that is, if this anime or the game it's based on are even released State-side.

In the meantime, be sure to check out this great anime! Two thumbs up!
