Arthur Bryant's was founded in the early 1920's by Charlie Bryant. When Charlie died, his younger brother, Arthur, took over the business and moved the restaurant from its current location to 18th and Brooklyn. This new location was moved by the Municipal Stadium, the cities ballpark, which was the first home of the Kansas City Chiefs.

With this new location, there were always players and fans stopping in before the games to grab a bite to eat. This helped them to become a nationally known eatery. You walk in and find a long line, but it is worth the wait. You walk up to the counter and place your order and watch them make your meal before your eyes. You then take your place and find a place to relax and enjoy.

The menu includes ribs, smoked brisket, ham, potato salad, baked beans and fries. No matter what you decide, it will definitely be a winner.

Arthur Bryant's has created sauce that has attracted the likes of former presidents Harry Truman and Jimmy Carter. Other well-known celebrities that have stopped at Arthur Bryant's are Steven Spielberg, Michael Landon, Robert Redford, Jack Nicholson, Wilt Chamberlain, Bryant Gumbel, Tom Watson and George Brett. Calvin Trillin wrote in Playboy, "It has been acknowledged that the single best restaurant in the world is Arthur Bryant's barbeque at 18th and Brooklyn in Kansas City."

Articles have been written about their famous barbeque in Gourmet Magazine, People Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine, Bon Appetit, Fortune Magazine and Better Homes and Gardens. When visitors come to Kansas City, they know that they can find some of the best barbeque there. One name that comes up first is Arthur Bryant's.

Arthur Bryant passed away on December 28, 1982, at the age of 80. New owners took over the business and re-opened the restaurant on February 21, 1983. They did not make a huge announcement, and just before 10:00 a.m., they turned the sign from Closed to Open.

Today, there are four locations in the Kansas City area. Their original restaurant at 18th and Brooklyn, in the Ameristar Casino, the KCI Airport, and their new location located at Legends at the Kansas Speedway. They also offer online shopping, so you can purchase their famous rubs and sauces or even purchase a gift certificate. Arthur Bryant's will definitely be around for a long time.
