World Heavyweight Championship in Del Rio's Sights

Alberto Del Rio, the winner of the 2011 Royal Rumble Match, announced on the Jan. 31 telecast of Monday Night Raw that he would go after the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 27. The decision only comes a day after winning the biggest Royal Rumble in history, outlasting 39 other competitors and earning the biggest win of his young WWE career. Del Rio is quickly becoming the fastest rising superstar in WWE history and will have a chance to win his first world championship at the grandest stage of them all, WrestleMania, less than a year after joining the company.

Del Rio opened the Monday Night Raw show, being introduced by his personal ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez, and coming out in one of his fancy cars that he comes out in every week. Del Rio came out to celebrate his amazing achievement with his own mariachi band, to go with his Mexican heritage. After the mariachi band finished playing, Del Rio got on the mic and cut a promo introducing himself and telling how it was his destiny to win the Royal Rumble but nobody would listen. Del Rio continued saying that it is time to celebrate his victory, and that he has made up his decision on which championship he will go after at WrestleMania.

Before Del Rio could make his announcement, The Miz's theme music played and The Miz, alongside Alex Riley, made his way to the ring. The Miz, holding a mic, congratulated Del Rio on his impressive victory and hoped that he would choose him at Mania. The Miz would go on to criticize Edge, the World Heavyweight Champion, saying how Edge doesn't respect Del Rio. Edge's music then played and the World Heavyweight Champion walked to the ring, where The Miz and Del Rio were waiting.

Edge told Del Rio that if he had anything to say to him, he would say it to his face and mocked his accent. Del Rio got back on the mic and announced that he would be the new World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania 27. A fight broke out between Edge and Del Rio, before Del Rio took a guitar from one of the mariachi band members and crashed it on Edge's arm. Del Rio finished Edge off with his cross armbreaker submission hold, making a statement.

Now that Del Rio has chosen what championship he will go after at WrestleMania, he has to wait to see who his opponent will be. While Edge is the current World Heavyweight Champion, the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view is right around the corner, and the world titles change hands most at the Elimination Chamber because the champion has to fend off five challengers inside the most brutal structure in the WWE. Del Rio is in a great position at the moment, and might be the favorite heading into the biggest match of his entire career at Mania.
